stw2 air filter

I have a lister stw2 located in a semi boxed in compartment in my trad boat when I bought it it had no air filter fitted housing is there I have not fitted one as was thinking perhaps it strangles air intake I do have an inline blower which draws air in from outside engine bay do you think I should have a filter

The original STW's had a paper element filter fitted BUT some only had an inverse metal bowl to stop things being dropped down
