Featured Posts

Hi, iv recently done a full rebuild on my lister st 2 and I mean evreything, tried firing it up today would only run on one cylinder, the number one cyl wont fire, took the injector out number 2cyl cranked it over all I got was white smoke unburnt fuel. I have two shims on both pumps can the pumps be shimed diffrently or have to be the same. Its definitely a fuel based problem. If the clearences between heads isnt correct can this cause it to not fire

Thanks

Yes, you have to shim the heads to get the bump clearance right

Yes, the pumps could be shimmed differently, you use the shims to get the spill timing right

And you have to get the pumps timed correctly to each other on the rack

The injector only ever delivers unburnt fuel when out of the cylinder

Ah okay, whats the best way to shim the heads and what distance do they need to be pumps are alighned correctly I shall have another go at spill timing. The enginenis also alittle tight nothing major gussing thats due to the new bearings etc. Its had crank regrind bearings camshaft bushes, rings valves pumps etc iv done the full works

There's one here: http://www.winget.co.uk/document/LISTER%20ST%20WORKSHOP%20MANUAL.pdf

The torque settings are in there, as are the end float, governor settings, decompressor adjustments and the methods for spill timing and bump clearance.

I find that with the injectors out (or decompressed) I can pull a two cylinder Lister over with one hand by pulling the inside of the fan. It shouldn't be tighter than that

I've bought a complete new pump for this,bi know they can be tricky to fit and a spanner on the end of the gearbox to rotate it until the pump engages and then just slides on. Alot of people have told me that they use engine oil in the gearbox, I thought it was ep80-90 to be used?
