BMc 1.5 diesel in wet exhaust

lexicon

Featured Posts

Recently there have been a bit of diesel showing in the water coming out of the exhaust of my BMc 1.5 . Usually running at highish revs while charging batteries.

Any advice on why this may be happening and ways to reduce/stop.

You could just try putting it in gear whilst tied up, provided it isn't going to upset anyone.

I don't really have the expert technical knowledge but until someone else comes along... If you are sure it is diesel, but the problem disappears when under load, I would suspect an injector problem. I had this issue with my last boat, though it was a 1.8, if the injectors are worn or dirty they will work ok when asked to do some work, but if on tickover or running in neutral the engine doesn't burn all the fuel so the excess gets chucked out of the exhaust. It usually manifests as white smoke though, rather than actual fuel, so I'd make sure it is diesel for sure before interfering with injectors. Incorrect timing can also cause this problem, I'm told.
