Rugby to Crick and back

Featured Posts

I have usually done a cruise diary for our little jaunts, but there was no way I was getting my camera out in the weather of this last week!

Things gleaned from this trip?

- ALWAYS pack waterproofs, even in the summer.

- there are some right miserable bastards between Rugby and Crick

- there are some right friendly people too.

- there are baby locks down South.

- the tunnels are wide enough for two boats, but not if one boat drives down the middle.

- 75% of owned boats didnt slow down passing us.

- 75% of hire boats did slow down passing us.

- grp cruisers moved no water passing us.

- the 'kink' in Braunston tunnel is quite scarey when there is a boat coming the other way!

- I still don't understand why sideponds are a good thing.

- cruising on a Bank Holiday Monday is way too busy for my liking.

- Mrs W is ace at lighting stoves

- Mrs W is ace at winding boats

- more people clean up after their dogs down South

- the towpaths aren't well used at all

- no-one seems to fish in the canal.

- Crick to Rugby took 10 minutes in the car, but took a day and a half on the boat!

- chairs are better than sofas for relaxing in and listening to the rain.

- a 48' boat is a nice size for a holiday boat

- there is not a squeak of telly or phone signal just outside Braunston

- people start moving boats at 6.30 am

- ducklings are not a standard size

- exhibitors did good business at Crick this year

- watching other boaters executing a difficult manoeuvre is a very worthwhile exercise

- bow thrusters sound a bit whimpy

- bird seed sinks

- don't moor under trees in the rain

- Sheep are noisy animals

- red before white

- We do like this boating lark
