Promastic (sp)

Featured Posts

I have been recommended, by a boat builder, to consider using a product "Promastic" ( I think that's how its spelt ;) )

The boat is currently "blacked" with "chlorinated rubber" and I am told that this would avoid the clean back to metal that would be necessary for Comastic.

Comments / advice gratefully received so if anybody has ever heard of it please let me know.

Thanks as I'm confused ;)

Martin

http://www.proma.ca/english/products/promasticontrat-e.htm

tells me that it's a ceramic tile adhesive suitable for interior but not exterior use, or where prolonged contact with water is anticipated.

as opposed to:

http://www.paco-systems.co.uk/comastic.html

which says (quote)

COMASTIC

A high build single pack moisture repellent anti corrosive coating for application to boats or steelwork in a marine environment.

A special selected vinyl resin formulated with coal tar pitch and a range of additives gives a thixotropic coating.

I have no personal experience but 5 minutes on Google makes me wonder what he is on about!! (I'm assuming you heard the "Promastic" correctly LOL)

That's exactly what I found on Google, it had me doubting too but I thought I'd ask the combined wisdom of the forum

I think I can clear up the confusion . . .

I think you've got your Comastic confused with your Primocon and come up with Promastic . . .

Primocon is an underwater primer which can act as a barrier between coatings which otherwise react together.

Comastic was a brand name of Wailes Dove, a manufacturer of paints and coatings which I understand is no more - (I'm not sure if the Paco Systems website is up to date). COFLEX is a similar product, being Coal Tar based rather than bitumen based. One of its benefits is that it isn't dissolved by diesel, which bitumen coatings are. This product is recommended for application to bare metal though and we have had a problem recently with someone applying it on top of Primocon . . . .

Now I've probably confused you even more . . .
