The bottom lock of Johnson's Hill (or Hillock) is on the point of failing

 

The head gate cill is blown and with the bottom gates leaking like a sieve it is draining the pound above v/quickly

 

I have reported it but with it being a bank holiday Who Knows!!

When we ran dry and closed in 2010 it was entirely due to the lack of rain according to BW.

 

Greenberfield Bottom lock (1980) is in the same dismal state.

The first time we tried to go up there, 1966 I think it was, we arrived just after a converted lifeboat had gone sailing through the bottom gates of the bottom lock (from the top). The boat survived intact, & from what I can remember, though it's a long time ago now, they straightened out & rehung the gates within a couple of days.

Thanks Richard I was trying not to think about that!! This one looks like the Doorstep is lifting virtual full height fountain right across the lock!
