Blue Star
If you are prepared for it and make your approach correctly (usually well away from the weir side,) then it's pretty easy to steer/power through. We got caught out approaching the lock at Beeston (near to where Ange is currently moored). It's a big weir there and I made my approach way too far to the right (weir side) when I should have been much further over to the left. The current caught the boat and I had to give the throttle some real 'wellie' to come in on the correct side of the jetty on the approach to the lock rather then get pinned against the barrier protecting the weir, or possibly worse... The cross wind didn't help either. ed to add pic. - the approach should have been much closer to the moorings at the top of the picture where I would have had minimal chance of getting caught out - as it happens I cut the corner and was immediately in the main flow towards the weir. Lesson learnt - keep well over and be ready to react if you do get caught in the current.
