Coming home alone on Monday evening I had the easiest time yet through the lock. It was empty but all gates and paddles were shut. I managed to open the gates with my boat, and the strong wind had gone. Once inside I tied the centre rope to the top of the ladder as usual, then opened one paddle. The gates shut more gently than when pushed shut, and the lock filled while I took my coat and bags to the car. I pushed the top gates open with the boat and moored up.

 

These are the heaviest gates on the system.
