When does the big freeze start?

OK, this is rediculous. It's Oct. It's supposed to be time to put the fires on etc etc. I have a roof full of wood. Last week was the hottest 4 days we've had all year. Is it global warming...

 

Someone tell me. WHEN does winter officially begin. I'm talking about below 10degrees Celsius. I'm sick of waiting.

 

I'm hoping that the low temperatures and bad weather hold off for as long as possible. About this time last year winter started in earnest and it made for a very long winter and a lot of money spent on fuel. If it holds off for another month or two we'll have it easier until spring.

We have just paid 7.00 per bag for 10 bags of petcoke, which is our preferred choice, it stays in beautifully overnight. Each bag is 20kg. Delivered to boat from coal merchant. We're currently on the Bridgewater, near Manchester, but only briefly.....this lot should last until Christmas with any luck!
