Barbridge to Ellesmere Port

Hi,

We try to include some "new territory" as part of each trip. This time it will be the Shropshire Union north of Barbridge, which will be new water to us. We plan to take 4 or 5 days for the return trip, as part of a longer journey.

Any tips about moorings, pubs etc would be useful.

I do have the Nicholson for the area but it is the 2004 edition and is not completely up to date, judging by some more recent blogs which I have seen.

Thanks.

Can recommend the Shady Oak at Beeston - good food.

With regard to moorings in Chester we usually moor just under the bridge past the winding hole opposite the OAP sheltered housing. Have moored there on a number of occasions and found it to be great - good access to the shops and near the walls.

Try to avoid mooring by the pub just before you go under the bridge (by the winding hole) as it can get very noisy - particularly at weekend.

Hi,

We cruised that stretch in November 2009 and moored at the museum.

Between Chester and Ellesmere port there didn't seem to be much but

we did stop at Picton Lane Bridge 136 and visit the Bunbury Arms.

Our family usually joins us on one of the weekends we are away so

we had a look in on our way up,were very impressed with the menus

and the special boards so we booked for the following Sunday. We were

all very happy with the service, food etc.About 10 mins walk from the

bridge,no footpath though and the road is a bit narrow, but not busy.

Fred.

Thanks very much for your helpful replies - looks like it's quality rather than quantity this time, which is fine!

I've got till Thursday, if anyone else would like to add anything.

E.g. is the staircase in Chester difficult, do visitors moor outside the museum, whatever.

Ta.
