Water stop valve?

Featured Posts

The water supply valve/stop tap on our boat is very hard to access, under the cratch floor in a (full) storage cupboard .

I am thinking of replacing/supplementing this with a solenoid (powered open) valve which can be linked with the water pump switch so that on leaving the boat I can switch off the pump and the supply.

Is this feasible? Has anyone done this? Any thoughts on where I can obtain said 12v solenoid valve?

Thanks

David

Can you afford the continuous power drain to run it? If you use a 1/4 turn isolator with a lever to operate you could rig up a cable to pull and push it open. Alternatively add a second valve in the same run somewhere where you can get to it. Or empty the cupboard.

Valves of the type you want are used on vehicles to control the coolant flow. They're not cheap. If you can find a late Range Rover in a breakers there's a 2 way one fitted.

As it will only operate when the pump is on then yes it's perfectly feasable.

The valves are available from Lee Sanitation (amongst others) as they are used for electric flush toilets. I got some 12 volt ones out of a scrapped washing machine a few years ago but most of those are usually 230 volt.

It will probably reduce the water flow a bit.
