Fuel filler locking device.

Featured Posts

My diesel filler is the type that comes through the roof of the engine room. Ive been thinking of a way of securing it without having to drill a hole through and adding a padlock.

Ive used a 50 mm towing hitch lock.It works by drawing a wedge shaped piece of metal up into the body and spreading the 2 sides apart,so wedging it in the pipe. Then the lock is inserted, preventing the allen bolt being undone.

I had to cut/grind quite a bit off ,but its perfect for the job.If your filler was 50mm it would go straight in.

The plastic strap is to draw it out once its undone.

Im not sure if they make them smaller than 50mm.

Ive seen them in caravan shops for around £16.

I ground this one down to 40 mm and it could have gone smaller.

Do you think it would withstand someone 'punching' it through with a hammer? I know I am playing devils advocate and how many diesel thiefs would carry such tools but isn't the advantage of a padlock being a visible deterent getting the thief to move to an easier target?
