ChrisPy Posted December 6, 2005 Report Share Posted December 6, 2005 Not all boats steer best with their bow into the current - mine is a right pig, liable to snap to one side or the other really easily. that doesn't make sense. If there is a steady current your boat won't sense it. It is just moving forward relative to the water. Effectively in still water you are steering with your bow into the current. Of course if the current is eddying and moving around unpredictably, like in a weir pool, no boat will steer very well and the speed of response is up to the characteristics of the boat and the anticipation of the helmsman. Cris P Posted December 7, 2005 Report Share Posted December 7, 2005 Just adding that the Avon was having a good flood again this past weekend. I noticed someone thought better of continuing their journey downstream once they got to Kelston lock, and spent the weekend in the lock itself, which seemed like a safer plan.
