tomandsophie
Our mooring has no electric hookup. When we get our boat on the water we will be relying on 3 or 4 leisure batteries, 1800w sterling inverter, and perhaps a solar panel or two. What are your recommendations regarding whether to buy a gas or a 12v fridge? Which one do you reckon is more cost effective, etc.?
rustyduck
There's always a 240v. Then you can use the saving to buy a couple of extra batteries which can only be a good thing!
Alastair
Do your figures. A good electric (Danfoss compressor) fridge will need about 20-30Ah per day. That power has to come from somewhere. IF you have a big battery bank, and cruise every couple of days (plus alternator controller and big alternator) - then have electric fridge. If you can't supply that sort of power, then get a gas fridge and put it in the cratch or stern under a cover. www.wildday.com are selling a Waeco gas fridge for 135. I have one, it is good quality build. I only run the gas for half the day atm, as otherwise it tends to freeze the contents.
