Crowded waterways?

British Waterways (BW) manages some 2,000 miles of canals and rivers, and plans to increase its revenue by doubling the number of water users between 2002 and 2012.

Is there room for doubling numbers? Arent some of the canals already overstretched in terms of demand?

They probably meant to say 'doubling the income from the water users'!

They want to double the number of visitors to the waterways - not the number of boaters. In other words, lots of new sightseers, walkers, cyclists etc.

But surely a lot of walkers go to the canal to see boats. Price the boaters off the water and there is no point in going there.
