jakub
We are now blacking our freshly bought boat but after it had been taken out of the water we discovered a rather nasty surprise. There is no coat of anything under the waterline but above it there is something which looks like a vinyl paint. (in fact we found the can of it on board). Can we still - as planned - use bitumen on the whole hull? The operation is for two years only as we plan to save up for epoxy and do it in two years. Thanks, jakub. When you say 'vinyl paint' do you mean vinyl pitch such as Comastic or Coflex? If so bitumen is officially 'not compatible' but if it's well weathered (sounds as though it is) you may be OK with Rytex ( a variety of bitumen). If waterline & below has no paint, then it's only really cosmetic anyway if the new paint peels off the old. Tim
Guest
I too have found Rylard Rytex seems to happily go over most other finishes, providing that they are weathered.
