Anyone know anything about this boatbuilder? http://www.soutwestboatbuilders.co.uk

Just started advertising new build boats on Apollo Duck. The prices seem very low - e.g. a fully fitted 50 foot cruiser stern narrowboat for £35,000. Seems like they are building to a standard layouts (several choices) much like EastWest boats, but I think the boats must be being built here in the UK, possibly Totnes. Very new as they say I can visit their fabrication shop but don't have any completed boats yet.

Boats do seem ruddy cheap!, as to if they are value for money - absolutely no idea - prices do seem to be too good to be true, which often means........

I don't wish to rain on anyone's parade but those prices are too cheap to be true. More importantly though perhaps are the build times; 15 or 16 weeks from the time the baseplate is laid until delivery suggests that they are being banged out in a hell of a hurry. I suspect, but don't know, that the quality will be commensurate with the price.

Will we see their name in a year or two from now?...........who knows!

Material costs are a factor but by far the bigger one is the cost of skilled labour now without you are operating in the "black economy" then those are pretty fixed.

It would appear too that they have a unique ability to compress space. Their 29ft cruiser has,it is claimed the equivalent space to a 40ft boat.
