The faria control unit from Barrus incorporates a rev counter with an hours run meter. My rev counter started showing revs intermittently now has stopped working altogether, although the hours run seems to be working. Is this an electrical connection problem or a mechanical problem?

The rev counter signal is derived from the alternator. Check for poor connections on the alternator and engine harness. Is your alternator actually working ?

The hour meter probably works purely from the ignition, so when the ignition is ON, the hours are counted. The rev part will be connected to your alternator (the connection is usually marked "W" on the alternator body). It may be loose or the crimp connection may have parted company with the wire.
