How does one go about finding a temporary live-aboard?

I shall be in England mid 2009 for some three months, of which ANY time whatsoever spent on one of the lovely canals or indeed any waterway within Europe would be a great experience.

I understand I could hire a vessel for any duration but i will be travelling alone and have absolutely no knowledge or capabilities of working the locks by myself etc.

I could pay my way on one of the many holiday outfits cruising the canals but I really would rather give my money to some couple perhaps who would delight in sharing their vessel for a small period of time in a much more relaxed and less programmed or timetabled way and maybe even enjoy teaching me a thing or two about life on the water.

I really don't mind just sitting in the one spot, moored the whole time without casting off at all, to just enjoy being on the water from this one loation, being able to rent someones holiday boat that they otherwise will not need at this time would be ideal.

Can anyone guide me?
