Can you rent a narrowboat?

Just a question my mum put in my head, and after reading about the terminology some councils apply to liveaboard boaters. So, can you rent a boat as though you were renting a house?

 

Might be a start to get me onto a narrowboat if it is possible...

I'm suprised that buy-to-let NB's aren't more common given their relative expense and appeal among young single folk ..

Oh I thought you ment, rent a boat like people do round here, which is. Someone owns a boat on a mooring, don't want to live on it any more, so decide to rent it out, usually by word of mouth. Then if the person renting is on low income, the Council will pay the rent etc. rents seem to be around the £100 to £120 a week for a decent size boat.

I'll be interested to see how they deal with the Energy Efficiency Certificate all landlords must provide from October 2008 to prospective tenants

I was always puzzled by the chains and padlocks used to secure a boat to it's moorings near me. Turns out it was rented out. No matter how trashed a buy-to-let house ever gets, at least it will never go missing!

I am about to move off a rented boat down here on the OXford nonew tennant found as yet if anyone is intersted.- rent takes the piss though ...hence why we are moving onto greener cheaper boat pastures new. ha ha!!

I think one thing I've spotted about renting is the lack of mobility, the padlocked ones for example, I'd like to be able to cruise along rather than be chained down to the mooring...
