A Mirfield charity auction sails away this Saturday with some fantastic lots onboard. The event being held at the Navigation Tavern from 7.30pm on Saturday 21st May, will include an amazing opportunity to bid for a weekend break on a canal barge for up to 4 people. The lot kindly donated by Brian Best of Shepley Bridge Marina , is something a little bit different for all you budding boaters out there.

Brian has also kindly offered a further lot to black the hull of a boat in his dry dock.

A full list of the lots can be seen on a web site at www.inspireconcepts.co.uk and includes television memorabilia, mobile phones, remote controlled cars, leather jackets, CDs and many more.

Marie Peacock, North Kirklees Fundraiser for Kirkwood Hospice said "We are really grateful for all the support that we receive, often from local people whose lives have been personnally touched by the work that we do. This year alone we need £3.1 million to care for the people of Kirklees. Only 20% of this is received from central government, leaving £2.5 million to be raised by such events. Every bit helps."

Event organisers Jason Hanrahan and Jordan Davies are hoping for a great turn out on the eveningand are happy to take reserve bids before the night. Ring 01924 500042 or email auction@inspireconcepts.co.uk for more details.

The evening includes entertainment by blues and jazz singer Amy Skeath, winner of the musician of the year for year 11 at Castle Hall School. We hope that you will come along and join us - and help make the event go with a splash!

A group of Mirfield friends are adding the final touches to a charity auction for Kirkwood Hospice which will take place in Mirfield towards the end of May.

The event will be held at the Navigation Tavern, off Station Road, Mirfield at 7.30pm on Saturday 21st May and is open to the public. A web site has been developed which can be viewed at www.inspireconcepts.co.ukand which lists many of the lots which will be available for bidders on the evening. Marie Chester, who is also fund raising manager for the hospice said "We have had a fantastic response from various companies including Universal Records, Orange, Granada Television, Mecca Bingo who have been particularly generous, and have provided some great lots - but we are still welcoming contributions of any kind from local companies or individuals. The web site is a great idea and allows people to get an idea of the kinds of things which will be available on the night."

Local singing sensation Amy Skeath will be providing musical entertainment for the evening with a collection of jazz and blues classics.

Among the lots are large collections of CDs, a crate of whiskey, childrens toys, and signed television memorabilia. The cast of Coronation Street have donated a top worn by actress Suranne Jones in her role as Karen Macdonald. There are also collections of signed Eastenders cast photographs which are in attractive presentation frames. Jordan Davies who is assisting with the auction and is a self confessed soap addict said "Some of these items have a real potential to become valuable collectors items. We have a singer confirmed for the evening. It would be great if we could also persuade a local celebrity to come along and support the event. "

Organiser Jason Hanrahan, who will be acting as auctioneer for the evening lost his own mother to cancer at Christmas, age just 53, after a three year battle with the illness. "Most people assume that the hospice is funded from the National Health Service - I certainly did. However, this is not the case - Kirkwood is largely funded by donations from the public, and has an annual running cost of £3.1 million. Having seen the care that they provide for the sick and terminally ill at first hand I am more than happy to do what I can to help ensure that level of care continues to be available for others. "

Anyone who wants further details, or feels that they can assist should contact Jordan on 01924 500042, or they can contact us via the web site.

Actually it is legitimate.

Just somewhat badly handled!

It should be a good night out if you're in the area and Brian from Shepley Bridge Marina donated a free short break on one of his boats and a coupon for a free boat blacking to the hospice, they would be well worth bidding on.

They also have a lot of quality items to auction rather then what you normally end up with at these type of events.
