Our yearly cruise

Featured Posts

Every year in the first week of October we hire a boat and go cruising.

The plan for this year was to do the Cheshire ring but it was changed en route.

Day 1 Saturday 29 September 2007

Arrived at Blackprince at Acton Bridge at 1pm 1 hour early to be told our boat was ready for us.

So put our bags on board after the hand over we set off heading north still intending to do the Cheshire ring.

Left Acton bidge at 150pm.

As we left the Dutton stop lock the time was dead on 3pm so no hold ups at the tunnel.

Decided to moor up for the night at the village of Moore as we had, had a long day also decided at this stage that we would not attemt the Cheshire ring as we wanted to just take it easy this year after our adventures on the Stourport ring last year.

Day 2 Sunday 30 September

Got up at 7am and started off at about 8am uneventful journey up to waters meeting where we turned left and headed for Leigh with the intention off mooring for the day at Worsley but arrived there at 3pm so decided to carry on evetually mooring for the day at Astley greenThis is where the fun began.

No sooner had we teid up a boat came speeding down the canal making no attemp to slow down when passing us, passing so fast that it pulled out our mooring pegs.

Day 3 Monday 1 October 2007

Decided that we would turn back and head for the Anderson boat lift stopping at the water point in Worsley, arrived at Worsley around 12 as we had made a late start and the plan was to over night at Little Bollington.

This plan soon came apart when we missed the water poit at Worsley.

So we moored up and walked back down the towpath in order to find it.

Having found the water point I took the boat up to the nerest winding hole and headed back to the water point.

Having gotten our water we tried to wind again at the Packet house but owing to a number of boats coming along could notSo decided to head back to Astley green again and over night there making an early start next morning.

Day 4 Tuesday 2 October 2007

Left Astley green for the second time at 710am and made good time kept going all day in order to make up the time we had lost mooring for the night at the village of Moore once again.

Day 5 Wednesday 3 October 2007

Made a 8am start arriving at the Anderson Boat lift at 1pm after having to wait for 40 minutes at the Saltersford tunnel.

Today also included the highlight of this cruise (taking the trip boat up the boat lift) decided we would over night here.

Turned out to be the right choice as it started to rain, the only rain we had on the whole cruise.

Day 6 Thursday 4 October 2007

This turned into a good day for cruising with bright sunny weather we headed south as far as Middlewich and winded just before the first lock, headed back for a couple of miles and moored in a woods for the night where the only lights we could see where our boats and any passing planes.

The only thing of note this day was that the only tv channel we could get a clear picture on was channel 5, wich was great for me being an Evertonian and Evertons European game was on channel 5.

Day 7 Friday 5 October 2007

Nothing of note, a nice gentle days cruising back to Acton Bridge stopping off at Anderton again for lunch arriving back at Acton Bridge at 330pm.

Thats it for another year
