I have a question regarding living on a boat and claiming Universal credit. I have recently unfortunately had a relationship breakdown where I was living with my ex partner and since splitting have found it difficult to find affordable housing. The option may be there for me to reside on a boat for a period of time. I'm currently claiming Universal credit and was wondering if anyone can give me any advice or information as to what fees are eligible to be paid. The Boat is not morred at a private mooring and the owner has a continuous traveller licence.

A thought... I would like / intend to spend most of the summer on a narrowboat cruising the waterways of England. I am happy to buy a boat and have the funds to do so but really don't know enough about them to know what to buy. I don't even know the difference between a trad, semi-trad and a cruiser stern! I know I want a liveaboard and not a hire boat. A thought occurred to me that here may well be someone out there who has a boat that they are unable to use this summer for some reason and rather than have it sat on a mooring eating money - perhaps they would like to lease/hire it for a few months to make it earn some money? I am happy to pay a sizeable deposit and insurance. I have done a couple of narrowboat holidays in the past so I am not a complete novice. The other thought is the possibility of crewing with someone who is off on an adventure and sharing the costs? The third thought (I am only allowed three...!) is that someone may have a boat for sale? The first two thoughts may suit me best as I intend to winter in the sun and wouldn't mind missing out on winter mooring fees! Is this the right forum/page to be asking this question? Jim

My partner and I have inherited a 52ft canal boat from a relative. The past year we have enjoyed our time on the waterways however with a new baby due any day now, going through locks etc has been increasingly difficult with only one person. The boat has been left moored for the past 4months and is showing signs of wear from the lack of use. Does anyone know if it Is worth leasing the boat out or offering week holidays on it to strangers? If so how would we go about this, with insurance, others competence on the boat, etc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We would rather not sell it but mooring costs etc will start mounting for something we just aren't using enough of

Hello I am seeking advice in regards to some charges my marina has charged me £100 bringing HGV on site to deliver boat - however HGV was not met by anyone other than myself. £50 set up fee - nothing was set up when the HGV arrived and I was told to put in on the grass or find blocks of wood myself laying about the marina. 3 months rent - understandable and now selling fee. If I sell the boat on the marina I have to pay £100 despite the marina having no involvement in the sale at all. is this normal? Can I refuse to pay the marina any money after I make the sale?

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I'm looking into buying a boat to live on. Until then I'm hoping to rent a boat to live on in London so I can get a feel for the water. Does anyone have a barge or boat for rent in the London area? I'm interested in both short term and long term rentals. I'm really handy, so could possibly help with things if necessary. I'd appreciate any advice as I'm a bit new to this! Thanks Mark

Hi All, Hope you are well, I wonder if you can direct me where to look. On weekends I usually look for an escape to do some writing and have time away from the city noise. I was walking by Little Vince in Maidavale and the idea of having/hiring a parked boat there came to my mind. I was googling and ended up on your forum, I am basically not looking to sail or live full time on it; I am looking to hire a boat with decent furniture inside to have good time writing or just chill and have a nice meal. Where would I need to look to find something like this, do I have to buy a boat and rent a spot on the river somewhere, or I can find an arrangement to rent boat for weekends on regular basis? Your help is much appreciated Eihab
