Oh no – anyone got any advice? I let a friend stay on my boat for 2 days, and he somehow managed to separate the flue from the top plate, I’m not sure how the fitting should work, so not sure how to fix it, I tried fixing it with that heat clay but that failed, the flue doesn’t sit naturally over the hole, it requires pressure to keep it in place, it has a back boiler, lots of plumbing, so moving the unit is not preferable to moving the flue – Do I just need a new cuff or topplate or some other fix, can you take off the top plate really? I would have though these things become jammed with heat over the years Any advice appreciated Cheers Martin

Hi All, I am in the process of buying my first narrowboat, 46ft and it has a really rubbish wood burner that I would like to rip out and put in a new bubble diesel stove. The little 4kw corner one. What I am struggling with is approximate costs for retro fitting one. Has anybody done this and what were the rough costs involved. I know it's really dependant on the boat etc, but I I am mainly wondering how much to budget. Not including the stove are we talking £500? £1,000 £2,000 etc. I don't currently have a dedicated diesel tank, just the main one. Any help appreciated.

Just had all the injectors in for a service and they were shot blasted. Now they feel loose in the bores even though they were a real bugger to remove and I've got blow by on two of them. Should I have used some kind of sealant or caulking? I remember removing rings of some kind of material from them on removal any ideas what it may/should be ? Thanks.

Hi All, I am going to attempt to change my diesel bubble stove for a nice new Morso 04 wood burner to preparing for winter ! I am going to put the stove in the same place and use the existing hole in the roof, but I will need to purchase a new flue as the one on the bubble is 4" and on the new Morso it is 5" 125mm, my roof collar seems to be 5" and just has some wooden packing around it so hopefully this isn't too much of a problem, I have read lots about the twin wall debate for chimneys and am happy with either really, I measured the length from top of stove to ceiling and make it approx 1300mm and I am struggling to find a flue this long. So I was wondering how do people do it ? do you join them or buy the flexi pipes? I am planning on fitting both ends with flexible high temp silicon, is it as straight forward as just fitting the chimney this way ? Any advice greatly appreciated, Thanks Martin

Hello! I'm getting rid of a full-length bath (!!) in favour of a shower basin. The extant bath is a few inches higher than the floor boards, meaning I need to be hunched to have a shower. Is there an blindingly obvious reason not to have a shower basin that's perfectly level with the floorboards? The pump is already offset, so the outlet would just need to go below the boards for a few inches before going to the pump. Please let me know! I'm dreaming of having a proper shower on my boat

Hello all, There are a few posts about redoing aluminium windows but just wanted to double check with the more experience that my plan made some sense and for some advise regarding particular products. I have aluminium windows as per photos and what with the recent rainy weather I found at least two of them leaking pretty badly ! they are 10years old or so. (I have owned the boat about a year and a half) THE PLAN: - Remove all wood framework inside - Unscrew windows from outside (drill out any that have rounded) - Prize away windows trying to keep from bending, using a pallet knife to break seal - Rub down with sandpaper and Fertan any rusty metal behind (wasn't sure if I would need to paint after Fertan?) - Clean windows up, remove any old silicone - Use a new rubber window seal (need some help here...) *Not sure which particular product to use ! Midlands seems to stock a few types? Could someone confirm which product to use? These were the three products I couldn't seem to figure out which one to go for.... Product Code: CW-052, Product Code: C120, Product Code: CW-015 *What do I stick this to? window or boat? (I am assuming its one sided sticky) *Not sure what to do at corners, presumably I cut this into 2 long and 2 short lengths the same as window, then do I mitre the corners as best I can? - Ok, then re-screw window back in, not sure what the screws go into presumably self tapping into the boat steel ?? - Then finally ,apply small bead of silicon around window frame *Anyone recommend a sealant for this, heard mixed things about sikaflex and I understand its important to get a marine one. So... Have I missed anything?? Any tips at all really appreciated as I am a little nervous about taking my windows out, I am going to start with one ! Many thanks in advance, Look forward to reading your opinions. Martin Photos below: Above is window from outside. Above is screws attaching windows Above is more screws from outside that look like they might be a pain to get out :/ Above is wooden framework inside boat that I was planning to remove first !

afternoon! i have a query about plumbing a new belfast sink into my galley. the waste fitting has a 1.5 inch screw thread. i want to get hold of an angled fitting that screws onto the base with a nozzle for a 20mm hose to drain the water out through the skin fitting. i have seen a few straight fittings like this, but because of the depth of the sink and the height of the skin fitting i need to have the fitting with a right-angled (or as close to it as possible) connector. all the angled connectors i've seen are for standard kitchen sinks with a screw insert to accept a central screw from the middle of the plug-hole. What i need is one that screws onto a 1.5 inch down-pipe waste. Does that make sense??? any advice would be much appreciated, as ever! to clarify: what i need is a fitting like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAN-SINK-WASTE-20MM-ANGLED-caravan-motorhome-camper-horsebox-boat-plug-bung-/130895601685?pt=UK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories&hash=item1e79fc6015 but which screws onto the base of this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BELFAST-KITCHEN-SINK-WASTE-SLOTTED-CHROME-BRASS-METAL-BACK-NUT-WASHER-PLUG-/230829151390?pt=UK_DIY_Materials_Plumbing_MJ&hash=item35be7d549e

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of re-fitting and have moved some things around like the kitchen, which previously had skin-fittings, but now have them somewhere else. My question is -what to do about the existing fittings/holes? A chap at midland chandlers suggested making a cork plug, which I guess would work (swell up if it got wet) but I wondered if there wasn't another way to do it. I googled for 'skin fitting blank', but no-one popped up with the 'perfect product'. Help?! Thanks! Patrick

Hi guys, I've found a boat which i'm keen to go view this weekend, it's in Cardiff I'm in London, and I'm keen to turn it into a live aboard for me and the Mrs. The only thing is, it has no shower. Can someone lead me in the direction of someone that fits showers/ or a website where I can browse NB shower prices? Here's a link to the boat: http://narrowboats.apolloduck.co.uk/feature.phtml?id=385613 The boat will also require lifting out the water and transporting to a Canal, possibly near London. I've been quoted £1000 by the Ship brokers. Is this an overpriced estimate? Thanks for your time again! Wes

Hi All, Where can I source weld in skin fittings? Or am I stuck with bolt in brass/stainless? Or should I not consider the weld in route and if so why not? Regards Glenn
