  1. Just signed it! Currently standing at nearly 2000 signatures. Keep it going chaps and chapesses!
  2. Preparations for any canal holiday have to include a trip to Julian Graves http://www.juliangraves.co.uk/pages/company.html They sell lots of high-energy nibbly things like chocolate raisins etc which I find are just the job for grabbing a handful of while I'm doing a flight of locks.
  3. Only asked a civil question! One day you might come to my town and need similar advice
  4. Can anyone advise me of the best places to moor in Stalybridge? We're only going to be there for one night during our holiday in May but we want to make sure we get it right. Nothing worse than setting off the next morning and finding that the perfect place was just beyond the next bridge Nicholsons warns that the area round Lock 6W can be a bit noisy in the evenings (although this may not be such a problem on a Tuesday!) and looking at Pennine Waterways virtual tour a lot of the canal does seem (as they say on all the property porn programmes) "a bit close to a main road" We won't have time to get beyond the town as we are coming from Marple that day and will already have done 16 locks plus however many it takes to get to the best bit of Stalybridge Any ideas folks?
  5. Why (oh-why-oh-why!!) is Waterworld not on national telly? It is infinitely better than a lot of the $hit they throw at us!! I'm lucky in that we're just at the southern edge of Central TV's area but a lot of people miss out on this excellent programme.
  6. Boo Never mind, we hope to be CCers one day
  7. Just back from the AGM of our shared ownership group and the subject of where to base the boat for next summer needs to be resolved. I know we are possibly leaving it a bit late to get the best slots but hopefully there will still be some good places available. We have been based at Heritage on the Macclesfield Canal for the last 3 years and I think most of us have done the area to death! It's not so bad for those with 2 or more consecutive weeks but for us poor wage-slaves with only one week at a time it can be a bit boring once you've set off in all available directions I did voice the opinion at the meeting that I don't mind where we go as long as it's not in Nicholsons Book 4!! Can anybody recommend a user-friendly boatyard somewhere close to Birmingham (by car that is, I doubt anyone would mind if it took a couple off days to cruise it!) , preferably on the south-east side; Grand Union or Coventry Canal perhaps? We need it to have good parking facilities and an onsite engineer to help out at changeover time which has up to now been on a Sunday.... and lots of cruising options!. We would be looking to move the boat there at the beginning of May 2006. Inspiration please!!
