  1. I am on a shore line power supply . The previous owner was also and looked after everything like a baby! All the cells are full and the tester showed full charge on all batteries. If its a problem with say, the gas ie . it needs topping up, would this make it work sometimes and not others? As I say its a shoreline unit, can I regas it myself or is it a specialist job? Phil
  2. never, only had the boat 2 months. Guy at the boat yard said there was no need!! What would you suggest? silicone grease? I assume I could grease from the top without having to strip the inner cable out Phil
  3. ok will check voltage. Batteries are fine, ive had the tester across them all today and they are spot on. Its been fine for the last 3 and a half years so not sure why the cabling would suddenly become suspect. Phil
  4. Sounds like it could be the cold then. I would imagine if it were a cable problem it would persist. I didnt try turning the engine off because we were doing mach 1 up the cutt !! Phil
  5. Thanks Tony Just wondered if the thermostat could be intermitantly faulty. Sometimes its working, sometines its not so its hard to know whats causing it Phil
  6. Its 3.5 years old and 700 hours on the boat so Im guessin it should still be ok Phil
  7. Ive been back up to check the batteries this morning and all 3 seem just fine. The fridge has been turned off for a few days and when i put it back on its working again. I think the wiring is ok, If i was to check, what readings should I i be looking for at the fridge connection? If its short on gas, can it be topped up? and if its a faulty stat how can I check it. and how likely is an intermitent fault on a shoreline stat? Questions questions. Thanks Phil
  8. Hi chaps We went for a quick sail up to Skipton for lunch at the weekend. As we left the mooring I noticed the prop was turning quicker than I would have expected. My throttle lever when pushed forward comes to a ' notch' that normally just has the prop turning slowly. On Sunday this position was way to fast!! After a few minutes down the cut it rectified its self and all was well for the rest or the day. Do you think I have a problem or could it just be the cold weather. Ive looked at the linkages and all looks ok.Should there be lubrication on such things? Its a Barrus engine and 150 gearbox. Thanks Phil
  9. Well the plot thickens!,, been out on the boat thisaft and the fridge starts working again!! Any ideas chaps? I have a shore power supply on the mooring so the batteries are trickle charging 24/7. So cant see how its a voltage problem. Phil
  10. Thanks for that Sounds like I need engineer to take a look then. Any recommendations in the west yorks area Phil
  11. Just been down the boat o take another look at the problem here. I spoke to Shoreline bt they wern,t overly helpful. The compressor will run but the fridge is not cold. On the back there is a electrical terminal with 7 connections. Top two are live and neutral. There is also a 4 core cable with yell/green, blue , brown and black. The yel/green connects to the live, the blue to the neutral . The brown and black are on the5th and 7th terminal from the top. Can anyone tell me which two are the thermostat so I can by pass it and rule that out, There is no obvous sign of a leak. There are gurgling noises when the comp runs. Thanks awfully Phil
  12. Agree with catweasl, hep pipe + compression fittings. Have to say tho, any problems i have encounted with plastic pipe and fittings all occur straight away at the point of installation. If its correctly put together in the 1st place it should be fine. Use the correct pipe splice tho as already suggested. Modern copper is poor quality anyway Phil
  13. QUOTE (floatingphil @ Dec 6 2009, 05:18 PM) I have a round thing on the roof that looks like star ship enterprise. Anyone know if its a digital anntena or analogue. The new digital tv and the vhf for that matter receives absolutely nowt!! Im guessing a new didital arial on a mast would do the trick Phil Sounds like one of these - Linky to Gazelle ariel Yep , thats the baby..... I guess UHF is analogue is it, coz its dont pick up diddly!. I think a digi arial on a mast as David suggested my be the way forward The starange thing is , the vhf is u/s as well so im not sure if the problem lays in the booster gain box thingy Phil

  15. Phil, If you are on a shore line hook up, can't you just plug into the mains and not worry about battery drain? Roger I guess when im plugged in i am running straight from the mains? Suppose its only an issue when im cruising Phil
  16. OMG thanks Tony, yes all assumptions are spot on!!! lol. Thinkthere are 3 batteries plus 1 for starting, any how, 80 hours is plenty, my eyes would burn out. Im on a shore line power hook up and batteries are all good. As long as the batteries run out go out as X factor starts Im happy Cheers tony Phil
  17. QUOTE (floatingphil @ Dec 4 2009, 04:04 PM) Im about to put a 240v unit on board, is that a problem or the wrong thing to do? Phil No problem with a 240v TV/DVD provided you've sufficient inverter power and accept that you may not be able to watch TV for as long as the batteries will die just a bit sooner than a straight 12v system. So what so of calculation should i carry out to determine how long the batteries will last with a 240v tv? Ive 2 alternators and a 3 batteries for on board power Phil
  18. ok thanks guys, next time I go up to the boat I will give those things a go Phil
  19. Im about to put a 240v unit on board, is that a problem or the wrong thing to do? Phil
  20. ok i will try a few things, the compressor does run so air my be the cause. Might have a chat with Shoreline b4 it goes overboard Thanks for your help chaps, maybe i will be offer advice one day when ive comleted my boat appreticeship. All I ahve is questions at the moment Phil

  22. All done, drain tap fitted, water didnt come gushin out as i expected. All ready for global warming now! Thanks everyone for your help Phil
  23. The red light is not on or flashing, sorry i meant the interior light!! There is power there and im on a shore power hook up so the batteries are all fully charged. I have tried turning it on and off but not upside down. I will try that. I think thats what you call refridgeration slump or something like that. It did go through long periods of being switched off b4 I bought the boat as the owner lived abroad Thanks Phil
  24. I think so, turned it up to 5 and left it overnight with no effect. At least the beer is stayin cold on its own at the moment
  25. Hi I have a 12 v shoreline on board, the boat is 3 years old so i guess the fridge is of the same age. There is power to the unit and the light is on. The compressor does run occasionally but its not getting cold and the freezer is not freezing. Anyone any ideas on a solution. Are they repairable, and if so is there anyone in West Yorks that could help? Cheers Phil
