  1. I put my 9 windows in using stainless machine screws tapped through the aluminium frames into the steel sides of the boat.  The 1st two of these I greased the screws before I put them in.  When I later came to remove the windows I found the two that I had greased had seized screws and a lot of white powdery stuff around them.  The others came out relatively easily.

I did look at long term leases but I dare say it would be economically viable to purchase a boat and then sell it after the visa expires.

I would view both the buying and the purchasing processes as potential nightmares.  Both are hard to do without plenty of time (though you can be lucky), particularly if you have no experience of doing them.  Unless of course you have pots of money.

The "big red key" issued to Police opens most locks easily.

They are good, being multipurpose.  They not only save turning a key in the lock but also save turning the handle when already unlocked.

Hi all, could someone let me know what the correct coolant mix should be for a Thermo Top Evo. When I took the boat over the previous owner said it was neat coolant, but I’m not sure. I’m having hot water problems with the Webasto and don’t know if this is a contributing factor.

Neat antifreeze would definitely cause problems!!!

Add corrosion inhibitors to the canal water? No more boat blacking needed ever again. No more weed clogging up propellers. No more grumpy fisherman. Add antifreeze in the winter and we could cruise all year round.

Can I ask for the addition of Fluoride as well please?  And vitamin supplements?

  6. I bought a Pela pump and never used the built-in hand pump again.  Excellent device despite the fiddly tubes.

Also recommend some white insulating tape.  Stick it over the side and end of a new oil filter when fitting and it makes it very easy to see how much extra turn you have given it after it has got finger tight.

A good complete set of metric spanners is essential anyway as where are you going to pray to, before you go to bed, without them?

A man without a good set of tools is a man without a tool.  Who said that?

  7. I remember in my college days travelling in a friend's uprated Morris something or another in the Welsh mountains at a certain amount more than 70 mph when the engine cut out.  My friend shouted "bang on the side of the boot".  We did and it recovered, and the process had to be repeated many times before we got to our destination.  He had relocated an electric fuel pump to a temporary position in the boot and it kept sticking.

Should this problem occur on a Beta, presumably dancing a hornpipe on the stern of your boat would effect a temporary cure?

  8. The best advice I can give you is to spend many, many,  hours ploughing through old topics on this forum using the search facility.   Just about everything you need to know is tucked away on here.  Lots of stuff on fitting out sailaways amongst other things.   If you end up buying a sailaway then buy from Colecraft (as I did).

That is SUCH a ridiculous word! Even though the meaning is appropriate, lol.

Just as the term "Solicitrix" is ridiculous for a.... go on have a guess... (or look it up)!

Not what I expected but still female and expensive.

That is an extraordinarily generous offer. I am going to see if the swager tool works first, for the sake of pride and sunk costs, and then I may call on you.

I know exactly what the adaptor I would need looks like, in my mind, and the specs are straightforward from the micrometer. I can see how a lathe is a game changer.

I am baffled that such a thing doesn't seem to exist in the world of camping/awning but so far I've found nothing. Learned about swaging though.

The mount threaded end looks like 1" 14TPI  but length of thread not obvious, the tube end would need to be measured accurately, perhaps OD - (2*wall thickness), and the length to be inserted would need to be chosen.  Aluminium would seem to be appropriate??   PM me if you decide you want one as I am more certain to see it than a forum post.

You mean like where one chapter says "turn the other cheek" and the next chapter say "an eye for an eye"

For every  guideline there is another quoting the opposite ?

I was thinking more of when I went to a lot of trouble to satisfy a rule only to discover later that the tiny "A" in a corner of the page meant that it was only Advisory not Mandatory.  (Has this changed ? - I haven't looked recently.)

And whilst I'm winging, why is it so hard to find the rulebook?  Its almost like they don't want you to find it.  Or has that changed?

  12. For hundreds of millions of years Darwin has been killing trillions of living things inhumanely.  I don't think the brief period when we are on the stage matters very much.  The delivery end is different.  I wouldn't want people to become accustomed to killing or to get to enjoy watching suffering.

  13. Just to add, all of us on this forum are keen for you to do this project if you want to do it after you have got all the info we can give!   We may sound discouraging at times but that is just a strong desire to make sure you have as much info as possible.  Projects when fully informed can be great fun!!!

  15. We've been here before.  Radiators transfer heat only by conduction and radiation.  That the air heated by these two processes does indeed move heat away in a process called convection is true, but the initial transfer of heat has to be done by conduction and/or radiation.
