Thanks Alec for your great and informative reply, your not joking on the price for PPG PSX 700, nearly £1700 for the 20l I would guess I need for 70 foot. Spoke with Danny Shakeshaft from D & J Engineering at Swanley Bridge Marina, he is going to do the blasting and after looking what it would cost me in time off work, he will apply 3 coats of the Jotun 2 pack, just need to check the price he gave was for the baseplate as well. This may all be for nothing as she is coming out of the water for her pre purchase survey on Friday but the only big thing that would put me off is any overplating needed, a few shallow pits in the base blate could soon be filled with weld, so a nervous wait, that is if the River Trent plays ball as the currant owner has to take her up the river to get to Shardlow for the survey. Hope she is ok as we have fallen in love with her and nothing else comes close to her spec for us, so will keep everything crossed.

I find a lot of canal related companies don't respond to emails but on the flip side some are super fast to reply. Thanks for the Epidac advice will look at the 16 now
-
Seen as our last canal boat was 56 foot will probably give the bow paint adhesion a good test getting used to 70 lol
-
Will have a look for that, thanks for the input Will look into there products thanks for the info

Yes just above the waterline will get advice from the manufacturer as to what paint then suggest to overcoat, on a Facebook group I'm in a guy used the International interzone 954, 2 pack and he said that kept it's colour for 10 years, not cheap at £520 for 20l would take some justification to wifey, so I'm leaning towards Jotun or the SML Ballastic Epoxy Thanks for your reply it was just what I was after people who have used different products, just had a quick look at the Dacrylate Epidac there seems a few different numbers, can you remember which one you used, nice boat as well, looking good, same colour as Perseverance minus the red Wow that has faded, never thought we had enough sun this year lol Thanks for the info, probably wrong choice of words on my part to say gloss, I was going to check with the manufacturer as want to do a proper job

That was my take on it as well and that is the service plan I will adopt and see how it all pans out -
Izuzu 42 service intervals
DandGNWales replied to DandGNWales's topic in Boat Building & Maintenance
Thanks alias for posting that, same as my guess, better do the lottery this week lol. When we had 2 x Perkins diesels in our salt water boat, we got genuine filters cheap from parts for engines, is there a dark secret for genuine izuzu filters don't think they break the bank, but if I can find a good supplier for regular use -

Thanks Lady G for a great reply, she is only on 500 hours so planned on oil and all filters (genuine) and belts, not sure if valves are shims or screw and lock nut but if they need doing will get them checked but she does sound very sweet with no smoke so want to look after her. -
Hi, If the river trent gods smile on us we hope to get the boat lifted on 11th for the pre purchase survey, so thinking ahead and trying to get my ducks in a row, what is the service interval hours wise for an Izuzu 42?, I got 250 hours in my head but no idea how it got there lol

Thanks for that MtB, not good, we are defo going with 2 pack, think I will overcoat mine with a gloss black topcoat to try and avoid it best as we can, thanks for your input Thanks for your reply, will check out Epiphanes 2 pack v the others on my short or getting longer list lol

Hi, I have searched the group as know the subject of 2 pack v traditional Bitumen has been done to death, but if our pre purchase survey is all good on Hull Corrosion, I want to get her blasted and then use a 2 pack epoxy for the re coat, I have heard as they cure they turn grey, do they all do it or certain manufacturers, also any suggestion on what is the most cost effective v performance and we intend to lift out every 5 years, seen a few people on Youtube use the SML Marine Paints Ballastic Epoxy but not sure if they had a sponsorship deal or a genuine unbiased review ?

Hi all, if the survey is all good on the boat we intend to buy it has a couple of jobs that need doing. 1st one is the roof mushrooms have had a small leak in the past that has now been fixed, but has stained the ash or oak veneer ply, is there a way to try and repair this or will we need to replace? 2nd Problem is the interior woodwork of the side hatch doors needs to be replaced so would need a good carpenter to make us some nice new ones, so does anyone know such a person near Whixhall Marina in Shropshire? Also the wood around the cruiser stern has seen better days, will try a sanding first but if we need a new one making what would would look good for the longest or is it a matter of just sealing with Yacht Varnish. Sorry for all the questions, the oily bits are more my thing, never ended well working with wood lol

Galvanic Isolators, again sorry
DandGNWales replied to wakey_wake's topic in Boat Building & Maintenance
AC can cause corrosion it's a known thing on Pipelines where they pick up induced ac off overhead power lines and when it leaves the pipeline it takes a little metal each time, leaves a nice smooth pit, should be ok on the boats lol -
Looking for install tips for Starlink on a boat
DandGNWales replied to DandGNWales's topic in Boat Equipment
I had heard this so thanks for reminding me, I was going to go for the Gen 3 residential set, just read the thread that was suggested about the guy who fitted a gen 2 to his electric NB and it says you would have to swap to a roaming deal so better look more into that, it's good you can now get them from Currys/PC World so at least if the Marina wifi is dire I can go to Currys and be sorted. -

I have not asked the marina yet but thanks for your input, really appreciate it. Must not be a good week for electric bollards, drove up to look at the various Marinas we wanted to check out, got up to the campsite after dark and reversed the caravan into the electric bollard, I think it looked better horizontal lol -

It was love at first site lol, she is my preferred reverse layout and we are buying off the original owner who had her built, fingers crossed she passes her survey now and the house sale all goes well -
Looking for install tips for Starlink on a boat

Looks like you found a better coverage checker than I managed, will look into setting up an external antenna and try cheap sims see how it works out, we live in a small rural hamlet in West Wales, phone signal is crap here but we got FTP internet so going to miss that speed, will also have a chat with the travelsat guy who advertises in the boat magazine see what he suggests then if not happy can then try the starlink and just have to bite the buller on cost, less beer tokens is never a good thing -

Thanks for your suggestion MtB, good call but don't think the Marina would allow it but worth asking the question and save more pennies for boat stuff -
Hi all, If all goes well with the pre purchase survey we hope to become the new owners of a 2004 Liverpool Boats 70 foot cruiser stern narrrowboat called Perseverance. We intend to put her on a residential mooring at Whixhall Marina, the mobile signal black hole lol, I still have to work online full time so having checked the coverage for various networks in the area it has to be a starlink system, so looking if anyone has one, what are they like, any fitting tips etc. Thanks in advance for any help Geoff and Dee

Hi all, Just thought we would say a quick hello as we have been away for a while, we sold our old Narrowboat then went playing with a Princess Boat in the salty stuff, just sold our house and fancied doing a liveaboard so just put the deposit down on a 2004 Liverpool Boats 70 foot cruiser stern, pre purchase survey booked for the 11th October so hope all is well and we get our new floating home? She is called Perseverance and we will be based at Whixhall Marina, so after the stress of packing our things for yet another move and the survey worries as a Corrosion Engineer just hope the Hull is sound and she gets a clean bill of health, so will be looking to enjoy the slower pace of life. Cheers Geoff and Denise

Thanks for your reply Ditch crawler, I do have valve in the pipe, I have tried that and it's still the same

We are just cruising our newly purchased project 55 foot Narrow Boat Home. I will be stripping out the cabin side and roof wood, so I assume I would glue some wooden battens to the hull metal then screw or nail the ash or oak faced ply to the battens, so if I have it correct what is the best glue to use, as I want this to be a one time upgrade
