  1. Thanks Carit and Smelly, I will give them a ring Lucy
  2. I found this thread interesting as I have wondered about mooring fee's. My husband and I both dont work now. But before you judge! We have both worked full time all our lives, are in mid 50's, brought up 4 children (all now married) who have all worked their lives, I have done my bit for Queen and Country ( first gulf war) but I found myself unable to work because I suffered 2 strokes initially and do still have the odd mini. After coming out of the Royal navy, My husband worked to 22 years at his last job, and even having cancer treatment every 3 months managed to keep his job till he was made redundant last year. We had to sell our house, unable to afford the mortgage, and because my husband was working I could not get any help toward prescription charges. Now though we have re-applied for prescription charges and are able to get much needed medication that keeps us alive basically. We live on our private pensions that we cashed in when we bought our boat, so would we get mooring fee's paid do you think? I think we would deserve it, we paid plenty into the sytem over the past 40 years dont you think?
  3. We started living aboard in January 09, we are Paddy and Lucy and I have found this forum very useful. We have a mooring in a marina at the moment but would love a private residential mooring with elcetric hookup, I have found it very hard to find any private moorings especially with elec hookup. We spend most of our time out in the canals, but regular hospital appointments mean we need a base (ie the need for a long term mooring) and in the winter we plan to stay put at the mooring. if anyone has any ideas please let us know the best way of going about finding one well done to the site builder Lucy

  6. I am not too sure what a bow thruster is, but my husband was looking at one and after seeing the price I told him we didnt need one... I hope I was right!
  7. Thank you all so much, my husband says that the outlet that was below water was the 'Bilge Pump Outlet' For some reason it went below the water line and let the water in as the diameter of the out let pipe was PVC and smaller diameter than it should have been, he has now used a tighter fit pipe and it does seem to have solved the problem, although I must admit that I will have a sleepless night and will get up early to see if the water in seeping in again. But I really would like to thank you all for all the help and advice you have given and hope to make some good friends on this site. Warmest Regards Lucy
  8. We are new to boating and live aboard, this morning we woke up to find canal water seeping in and my husband noticed that the outlet pipe at the back of the boat was below water, he checked the valve and it was ok, but the seal around the pipe was no good so he fixed it. Is there any other reason this has happended, the back seemed very low, we have been liveaboard and boating since January 09, Anyway we are drying out now and the back end seems to have come up since we pumped out all the water that had seeped in. Any advice would be most welcome Oh we are in the Nantwich area, and our boat is 65ft long Regards Lucy
