  1. Hi all, trying to email Liverpool boats but it comes back as unknown address (liverpoolboat@btconnect.com). I think I recall reading that they have changed their name or something. Anyone any idea who I should be contacting. Thank you
  2. Thanks for the advice. Another one off the list. Seems to be Orchard Marine Boatbuilders at the moment. Had a look over two of theirs and couldn't fault them. budget limited to around 60K for fully fitted semi-trad. Any other good ones to look up would be appreciated.
  3. Bought one of these kits for the house because we keep marine fish and they need good water. Kit was about £80, easy to fix and bought 5 sets of filters for it - should change them about every 4-6 months - for £50 on Ebay. Will definately be getting another kit for boat when we get it.
  4. Hi, has anyone out there got a boat by Dursley and Hurst, boatfitters? Considering getting one as price is good but need to know more about the quality etc. Do you have one and are you happy with everything?
  5. Any advice on which diesel boiler to install for central heating and hot water please. (or ons not to install)
  6. Hi all, would like information on generators please. Enough to run a washing machine while cruising!! Have a residential mooring so ok there with hook up. Is the Honda EU10i any good for keeping batteries topped up?? Haven't a fortune to spend but want one that will do the job
  7. Hi all, thanks for the advice re TV licence and fuel payments. Neglected to mention that we have a residential mooring all lined up, so therefore have a 'home address'. TV licence therefore sounds as usual. Will look into fuel payments cos that would be useful.
  8. Hi all, two questions for you. Do you get the winter fuel payment if you live on board permanently? How does the TV licence work if you live aboard permanently? We are both over 60 and get the fuel payment now in our house, but going to live aboard next year and would like to know answers to these. Thank you
  9. What is the best kind of stern gear/make for a narrowboat? This will be used on canals and river estuarys.
  10. Hi all, anyone know what is the best satellite dish for a liveaboard who cruises half the year? Think it should be folding and automatic but don't want to spend a fortune. Ideas appreciated.
  11. Does anyone know where I can get a 'doberman dog' tiller pin? The was one advertised in Canalboatbits but the website doesn't seem to exist anymore. Can anyone help as would love to get one for husband who is going to name our boat after his old dog and I thought it would be a surprise to get the pin.
  12. Has anyone been along the River Soar? Have a chance of mooring here, but don't really know the area. Photos look nice, but it is a River!!!! Whats it like in Winter etc?

Hi Everyone, we are planning on buying a liveaboard 57ft semi-trad next Spring to live on and have already started the mooring hunt. We have been told by one marina that when we are ready they will find a place for us, but its quite a large marina and would prefer smaller without the shops and restaurants etc. Any advice from anyone would be appreciated. Completely new to this but looking forward to a much slower way of life. Looking for residential mooring cos of postal address thing. What do most of you do? Are you residential? Is it best to be residential? Don't want to continally cruise but hope to do a fair bit each year.
  14. Hi everyone, yet another newbie without a boat!!! We are planning on buying a 'liveaboard' narrowboat next year and yes we do know of the residential mooring problems. We have put ourselves on quite a few waiting lists so far. How do you find living aboard?? We will just be retiring so hope to spend quite a few months a year 'cruising' and seeing the country. It all sounds idyllic, but is it? Would value the views and opinions of others who already do it.
