  1. Wellingborough, Tesco across the park.

    Good market in Thrapston.

FoTRN, we used many of those spots, most in the middle of nowhere, lovely. Dont expect to be able to get off the mooring at Woodford to the village, farmer doesn't like boaters and had barbed wire it off last time we were there.

Do the flight and overnight in Becketts Park, Morrisons very near and town centre easy walking distance.

My God those fatties are f*cking ugly and selfish.

So glad I moor on a narrow canal these days.

To be fair, the one on the left was only there for 36 hours and lifted out, taken to a large river system with lots of residential marinas where it fits just lovely.

The brokerage (pay a good fee and there has been a working wharf there for 200 years)double moor their boats for sake at the entrance to a bridge on the outside bend however I am critisised.( from before Christmas to late Feb, did you pay for a winter mooring, ...no. Going for water and pump out once a week isnt classed as continuous cruising when you return to the same stretch)I will post photos of where I moored and leave it for other adults to judge if the critcisms were fair.

Once I've posted the photos I shall leave the forum as I'm tired of schoolyard gibber.

Ok, you havnt posted your photos...

    No double moored boats.

World apart those who drive boats for a profession and those who are a professional skipper!!!!!!!

You have a cassette loo, lots of bridges....

Saying that, tie up properly, not like RBS....🤪

  5. What you may also find with a change in wind direction is the flue doesnt draw well, especially if you have one of those Bird directional toppers that hasnt turned round with the wind.....the wind will be directed back down the flue.

We have had an East wind this week....but not a strong one, so it might not have shifted the bird round.

  6. Check the plate on the rear of the stove, the one used if the flue exits out of the back, not the top. This is a common fail point, as it is difficult to see or get to. The two retaining lugs can break, and the seal can deteriorate, either could lead to escaping CO if the flue is cool as you describe.

  7. Last comment on this thread with another post that the other Matt will probably take offence at, given the £200k plus he has probably splashed out on his dream boat.

Aqualines have a history of not having millscale removed before paint and any hull coating goes on.

New and Useless will never give you the stats, and some owners dont notice until they come for the first recommended blacking within 18 months. It is recommended as there will be naff all left below the water line.

Many, many of those boats have been recoated under warranty, many have had roofs and sides repainted...yes, we have even had a Aq widebeam in here for a roof repaint.

We have also had a narrow one sides repainted as the hatches and windows were cut in the wrong places, recut and hole ls filled in, which rusted through the welds within 18 months. Repainted by Aq team from Poland.. and now looks like a complete bodge job.

I am not prepared to talk about the quality of those repaints, find the owners and ask your self....or just look about you on the cut.

There are ideal painting conditions, marginal conditions, and completely no go conditions.

When you are mass producing stuff, you do it all year round.

You have had your hull done now 3 times in the wrong time of year for a good, long lasting finish.

....and I still havnt called you an idiot or stupid.

You expect top quality when buying as you did.

I react to insults with insult, perhaps these online bullies have little else to do and being anonymous (most of them) helps them get off on some kind of ego trip.

Insinuating that the only moan about me is where I moor ( on a blind bend making it difficult for others to pass) when the brokerage there itself " pays CRT a fortune" to do the same. The brokerage double moor their boats for sake at the entrance to a bridge on the outside bend however I am critisised. To be fair to the brokerage, there has been a working wharf on that side there since 1805.

Matty40s seems to be very well aware of my boat and location which also makes me aware of his. The only way he would know of the boatyatd of whom I speak is if I spoken to him personally and stating that he has a narrow dock narrows it down. I will confirm that I did not seek any remedial work from Matty40s and I have never been rude to him, nor anyone else for that matter so Mtb's "Wild Guess" is quite unfounded and uncalled for.

If matty40s is one of the two gentlemen with whom I spoke about the blacking then he would recall that I said that the blacking is peeling off ABOVE the waterline up to the top rubbing strake only so how is the "run off from the A5" affecting above the waterline and not below it?

There have been no issues/comments with other widebeams passing me,  to the contrary I have received passing comments from both wide beams and narrowboats going through the A5 bridge about boats for sale moored there being a hazard. Kettle pot black comes to mind. Perhaps I'll call in on my way past in  a week or so he can moan at me directly and call me stupid to my face. There's nothing like calling your customers stupid to boost your business.
......and just for Arthur Marshall, yes there are "Newbies" who may come to forums to seek advice or positive recomendations for future reference. Responses of  "tbh serve you damn well right" and calling someone stupid and an idiot isn't the way to make friends or influence people but demonstrates your own rudeness and character.

Please point out to me where I called you stupid and an idiot.

I dont believe I have spoken to you about your blacking, and I believe the brokerage pays a hefty fee to CRT to moor boats there officially, mooring a large boat opposite them on a blind bend isnt the most sensible mooring option locally.

  11. Nothing at all Mike,  we wouldnt take a wide beam as we only have a narrow dock.

There are a massive raft of newbys coming in who dont plan ahead, dont investigate, and blame everybody else for what happens.....

My only moan about the widebeam in question is where he chooses to moor, making it almost impossible to get other wideboats past on some occasions, and compromising navigation for other boats...luckily at a quiet time of year.

Had this been Easter onwards, he would undoubtedly have been hit more than once.

The only bloke on here who thought that boatyard was ace and well regarded was JoethePlumber, he is probably still advertising them now if he actually exists.

  12. He took it in the dampest, most miserable November, to get it 2 packed over existing shite covering in an unheated warehouse(if it WAS done inside)and was launched again within a week.

Then took it back again, mid Feb, in the wettest, most humid Feb in records..

to the same damp, unheated warehouse....

    Nothing more to add really

Ok, I will come back and add something..

    If you listen.

Ask for it to be done in late June

    Pay for 2 weeks.

Make sure it is pressure washed properly.

Get it 2 packed, properly...not just the waterline as the 2nd coat( forum search is recommended 😎)

Then it has a good drying time of up to 10 days before going back in.

Hope this helps, I do this for a living....

I've been in the fitted kitchen business for over 40yrs. Drilling a hole in 6mm steel is a walk in the park for a professional kitchen fitter. As for fitting a few standard units in a boat is plain sailing 😁 It's not rocket science.

Aye, in a Hudson you still have 9" of steel left to play with....

... and it certainly ws not the wettest winter on record If you want to use statistics then use correct ones,

Central England and East Midlands have been confirmed as the wettest Winter...Dec, Jan and Feb since regional records began over 150 years ago...Met Office.

    Also...

I know you are obviously an expert in these things but...

All the run off high water drainage holes from the A5 exit the bridge in a series of vents about a foot above the water on the South side. These enter the canal in a series of waterfalls....and swiftly move east (along your starboard side as you were moored for most of your mooring time) towards the local towpath side sluice about 300 yards away just before the next bridge. There can be a serious flow here in the kind of rainfall we have experienced this winter.

By the way, if the radiators are cold at the top that points to them needing to be bled of air.

This can also point to the liquid not mixing.

Sometimes when topping up the antifreeze, the old stuff refuses to mix with the new intake in the radiators. To sort this out is a  bit more technical and messy than just bleeding them. You may also have to run liquid out of the other top end if there is a plug there, pouring all the runoff back into the header tank slowly mixes everything satisfactorily.

  16. So long as you follow the flood warnings, yes, a DM2 is more than capable of enjoying every navigable canal and river that a narrowboat with a Beta or Isuzu engine can.

Theres one (58ft) in this marina that in 26 years has been along every inch of EA and CRT waters, some many times, including the Wash and Severn down to Portishead....and has also been trapped for short periods on the flooded Soar, Nene and Avon!!

We had our 3 year old 68ft widebeam paint work faults remedied at a yard on the river soar as part of a well respected builders paint warranty. As a "goodwill gesture" the broker and the owner of the boat building compny suggested a blacking whilst it was out of the water although I still had to part with £800 as half of the cost (cranage). This was done in Sep 23, 7 months after purchasing the boat just before loading the boat onto a trailer to transport onto the GU. Checking it as it was loaded onto the truck there were fresh water mussels still attached that had been blacked over and thin patches could easily be seen. But the boat was being loaded ready for the journey, (another tale).

On arrival at the marina on the GU the workshop manager there was disgusted with the state of the blacking and I demonstrated the state by wiping my finger on the hull and watched my finger get blacker with bitumen.

I agreed to having the boat done again at that well respected marina/workshop with two coats of epoxy to be done in two months hence (Nov 23) just 2 months since the bitumen went on. The boat was lowered into the water and slicks of bitumen appeared all around the boat.

We moved the boat onto the cut and have travelled a couple of miles waiting for the epoxy to be done. Leaving the boat in the hands of the marina we stayed in a hotel and returned a week later with the boat back in the water. Another £1850

We travelled about 4 miles and holed up for the winter and then noticed that the epoxy was peeling and flaking off.

Now returned the boat for more remedial work under warranty just 2 months since being epoxied.

Staying calm externally but seething with anger inside.

£2600 spent on blacking, a full year of hanging around waiting for slots and no cruising done. Our boat has spent more time hanging from a crane than floating.

The moral of this story is if you want a job doing right, do it yourself. Once this "remedial" work is done the only blacking work in the future will be done by me.

The time you said " well respected marina/ workshop " shows your naivety and lack of use of the forum search facility.

The well respected builders/brokers paint warranty fails and history of blacking boats also has featured heavily.

Perhaps that was your own fault, mooring next to a major trunk road for 8 weeks with the acidic run off surrounding your boat during the wettest Winter on record.
