    LEAKS!

Hello, It absolutly hammered down with rain today and i had to chuck a tarpauling over my boat because one of the windows leak (really dont know how to sort that at the moment because it just comes in through the rubber :S ) But the main leak is through where an old deck drain was covered up by my previous owner. What can i use to sort this out? Its a grp cruiser by the way. regards tom.
  2. Well i bought a 120w regulator and i paid somebody that i know on the river to modify it allowing me to keep the volts between 12 and 18. Im really not sure how he done it but he is an electrical engineer so its way above my understanding of electricals, but it can be done! The tv is a Technika 15.4'' from tesco mate. Youll find it on the net. if its not in your local shop.
  3. Nah its fine, i have a regulator from my battery so that when it is charging i can still use all of my electrical bits and bobs. It saves spending lots of money using individual regulators.
  4. wow cool, ill be chuffed if its somthing as simple as that ! Ill give it a go! thanks very much! Tom
  5. Hello, I just bought a 15'' hd lcd tv. Built in dvd and freeview players. It was £125 from tesco! Well worth the money! It had the external transformer plug so i just snipped it before the transformer and connected a 12v lighter plug with a switch in the middle. If you do buy one make sure you look for a tv which has a power cable that disconnects from both ends because the ones that have a permanently attached power cable wont have an external transformer.
  6. It wouldn't really need redesigning as it can and does put out 180amp charge, i was just wondering about the possibility of fooling it into continuing the 180amp charge instead of changing to 20amps once the battery reaches a certain charge level.
  7. Hi there, I have a Honda gx200 Stephill generator 6.5hp and produces 3.4kva. My problem is that it will start, rev fine and then it cuts off in exactly the same way every time as if its making itself turn off... I've tried all the obvious things and it has petrol, i've stripped and cleaned the carb, new plug, new filters fuel and air, topped up the oil. It has compression and sounds fine when its running before it started... It was running fine last week for about 40 minutes and then turned itself off.. Any help is much appreciated:D tom
  8. Nah, i've already converted a 140amp arch welder into a charger... just fancied a challenge really
  9. I bought a De- humidifier from the range, cost me like 6 quid and made a fair bit of difference...
  10. Hello, I was just wondering, I have bought an Absaar 20 amp charger from halfords which has a starterboost capability of 180 amps if the battery is flat. Is there any way to modify the charger to constantly put out 180 amps instead of changing to 20amp charge rate? I know there could be problems with over heating or whatever but i am prepared to put some fans into the casing if need be. I was just thinking that there must be some sort of sensor which tells the charger that the battery capacity has reached a certain level, which would tell the charger to change from 180 amps to 20 amps.. There must be a way to turn this off surely? Any help is much appreciated! Tom
  11. Haha didnt realise that i was going to start a debate! I think i might look at getting lorry batteries, they do seem alot cheaper and higher Ah.. Cheers
  12. What does GRP stand for? Why do they have to be proper leasure batteries?
  13. Ah right, thanks again for all the advice, reakon im gonna get 2 lorry batteries (170amp) run them parallel and i reakon ill buy a cheap 2stroke generator to run at the same time as the main generator to try and keep the riverside as quiet as possible! I've realised that im only going know how much electricity ill really need as soon as i move in! My only other question is, Why do people say that its a bad idea to have a wood burner on a cruiser? Cheers!
  14. hmmm.. This is becoming more of a minefield... My only problem is that im not sure on how the other islanders will feel if i run my own generator everyday... With the maintenance batteries, what do you top them up with? Do you have to regularly check them with a hydrometer and litmus paper? Do generators use alot of fuel? like if i were to run it 4 hours a day on average how much would that cost per run? Are generators mainly 2 stroke aswell? thanks alot for the replys.. i cant seem to find any information thats this usefull anywhere else on the net.. Regards
  15. Its 2 hours shared charging... hmmm.. I may have to buy a generator! I was looking at one of these batteries.. do you think it will be enough? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LUCAS-110AMP-SEALED-...2|39:1|240:1318 Also, i have heard that to make a battery last as long as possible you should never drain it to less than 25% capacity at the maximum. how effective would a solar panel trickle charger be to reduce this? Cheers for the replys
  16. Hi there, I have just purchased my first boat and it is a 22ft GRP cruiser. Im really quite confused about how im going to make my electricity last... The boat is going to be moored up most of the time and there is a communal generator which runs for 2 hours per day and produces 3.7kw. A few boats hook upto this including mine. Im just wondering how would i go about making it possible to run my laptop, tv, xbox 360, lighting, either speakers or a stereo and a spare plug to charge my phone . Not all at the same time but im just wondering how long this would last me? Also, i understand that cruisers can be difficult to keep warm in the winter so is there a way to insulate them? Thanks alot
