Hello I'm a member on here, also a BBC producer working on a new series about British boats for BBC2. I'm producing the episode dealing with the history of narrow boats. I'm looking for an example of an early back cabin to film in - any ideas? I used the cabin in Sunny Valley in Stoke Bruerne museum on a previous canal series however I'd like to use a boat on water this time. I'm also looking for an expert/historian to talk about Fellows, Morton and Clayton (potted history). Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks, Stuart

Searching for a small narrowboat (under 32ft)
larrysanders replied to larrysanders's topic in General Boating
Thanks for all these replies. I'm looking at this Liverpool 35 which is currently on Ebay. Lovely boat but a little out of my price range. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/narrow-boat-/201855867708?hash=item2eff8c1b3c:g:zC4AAOSwWxNYywih -
I've been looking for a small narrowboat for quite a while now but there aren't many on the market at the moment. I previously owned a Springer Waterbug and loved it but now I'm looking for one upto around 30 feet. Maximum length of my mooring is 32ft. Anyone seen anything on the market.? I've looked at a Midway 235, any other suggestions upto 20k... ? Any help much appreciated.

Charging a battery bank - advice please?
larrysanders replied to larrysanders's topic in Boat Equipment
Many thanks for all the replies above. Very useful info! -
Hi, I have a bank of 3 x 110 batteries, 1 starter and 2 leisure. Can you charge each of these batteries separately with a car charger while they're linked together or will this have a detrimental effect on the three batteries or the charger? With thanks.

-
Trent at Sawley in the red 4pm today. Flood locks on but the Soar was ok all of today.
-
What's the latest on the Soar - is it ok or in the red? With thanks.

many thanks Richard very useful info. glad you enjoyed the programme!

I'm moving a new boat from Barrow. I do know the Soar well but uncertain of the current levels. Also I was told that the locks have been locked at Redhill due to flooding - something I've never experienced?
-
I'm planning on moving a boat from Barrow up to Sawley over the weekend, so just wondering how high the river is at the moment. Also, if the river is in the red is it a very bad idea to go on it, - and will the lock gates be locked anywhere along this route. Any info and experience appreciated.

Three weeks ago I put my boat up for sale on Apollo and sold it within 48 hours for the asking price. In a tough market this wasn't luck. I thought about a broker but I gave it a shot on my own. I spent considerable time marketing the boat much like a house, considering the right price, took plenty of quality photos and plenty of relevant information in the write up. After 4 calls and one vieweing (the first) I'd taken a deposit. I have to agree with your thoughts on Apollo, so many people take poor photos and haven't even tidied up! We're talking about thousands of pounds. Tens of

thanks will try -
Can anyone help? I've got a leaky Propex water heater. Everytime I turn the water on in my boat it drips via the air vent on the side of the boat. Thankfully all the water is going outside, however anyone know a gas safe engineer in the area who's prices are reasonable! With thanks.

i had trouble with teenagers at double rail lock about a year ago - throwing beer bottles etc near the boat. they're prone to vandalism in this area, so that maybe the reason.

How easy is it to get petrol on the canals
larrysanders replied to Spacebar's topic in General Boating

The first thing I bought was one these 30 litre honda compatable petrol tanks on ebay. A Honda outboard 15hp engine much like my previous 9.9 burns just over a litre an hour if you're taking it steady on the canals. So with that tank and some others onboard I can cruise for well over a week (50 cruising hours ish). If you pl -
So petrol goes off when it's exposed to air then?
