  1. Thinking about Regents Canal for end of July. Any advice re moorings and best places to go and places to visit. How busy is the canal at that time of year?
  2. Hi, I seem to think that someone may be operating a Hotel Narrowboat from Edinburgh but, i'm sorry I don't have details. I did spot the boat at Lochrin Basin last summer. The people to ask are www.re-union.org.uk. They are also Edinburgh based and should know ! Regards Mally
  3. Thanks for the number. I don't think that going slower will sort us out as we're new to all of this and I'm sure we go at a snails pace even by narrowboating standards !
  4. Thanks for the reply Iain, I will contact Tommy. Is he based at Drumshoreland ? Our intention was to spend a bit time on the Union Canal (Ratho and Edinburgh etc) but we will probably move our boat back to Forth & Clyde next weekend. One thing we have noticed is that our propeller constantly has weeds round it which need to be cleared all the time. On the Forth & Clyde we did not notice this nearly as much ! Never heard of Wizard. Our little boat's called Shirvalee. Give us a wave if you see us !
  5. We've recently bought our first ever narrowboat and are moored on Forth & Clyde Canal. What we want to do is spend some weekends in Aug/Sep on the Union Canal. That means tying up midweek on visitor moorings and using our boat at weekends. The problem which I see is that a number of moorings are 24 hour only, others we would not feel comfortable leaving our boat unattended for say Mon to Thurs. Does anyone have any ideas how we could safely spend time on the Union Canal without worrying about our boat midweek ?
  6. Thanks for that. Can you let me have Sandy's details ? Yes have discussed moorings with B/W. A small number at Falkirk Wheel, a small number on Forth & Clyde and long waiting lists everywhere on Union.
  7. I'm new to boating & I'm thinking about buying a boat in England and moving it to Scotland. Probably a smaller boat around 22 feet to 30 feet in length. Very few boats for sale in Scotland therefore no choice but to buy down south. I suspect if I go too far south the transportation costs would kill me. Any advice would be welcome !!!
