  1. Very wise, and something many people dont think about. I have just yesterday renewed my car insurance for the year. Cheapest quote was £178 I went for the one several quotes upwards that cost me £209. The lower priced quotes all had compulsory excess of £350 and the one I paid the bit more for was excess of £100. I often get zero excess policies. Excess is simply a legal term for not insured lol.

  9. I was having a central heating system fitted in the house that would have run off 47kg cylinders. The gas system was a hell of a lot cheaper than a similar oil fired system but after soul searching and contacting both calor and flo gas I eventualy have gone for oil. Looking at the prices now of the 47 cylinders and the way calor stitch you up to an agreement I am well pleased that I have dodged a bullet.

  14. Excellent. Bin the house and buy boat cash and have a life Having no debt makes life vastly better. If you dont like or want to change jobs then you simply do it. If no loans to service month in and month out then you are boss, rather than the bank. You can last ages on way less income if there are zero outgoings to Mr Bank. We adored living aboard for 30 plus years and would still be doing it other than for health reasons. Its way better living aboard and moving around over the years. If you understand the few drawbacks then the significantly better lifestyle will be for you. Must go now, more boring house stuff to do
  15. Yep. As soon as I see the usual sentence of wanting to live aboard for a cheaper lifestyle, i immediately think the poster isnt going to last long and will probably lose a lot of money.

  24. Ive just had a complete new oil fired system installed. Its a worcester Bosch boiler of a similar type to what my mum had until she went into care, it was 24 years old and working without fault. My sister has the same oil boiler at 15 years old and working faultlessly. Parts are readily available should even the older ones need repair. They are great boilers. Even if fuel doubled it will be cheaper than spending megga thousands on a ashp compatible system. The full system I was quoted was circa 20k and thats on top of the equal amounts to insulate the property b4 you start. Its funny that governments only mention replacing gas boilers as plenty use oil and solid fuel. Similar to the 20k ish I was quoted.
