Anyone have any recommendations for a small stove with a four inch flue?

Why don't crt just raise fees for cc's, and (just to keep the canals moving) offer a discount for any cc's who travel? Like, if we do +50 miles get a gold star for bona fide journeys?
That doesn't fit with your username does it 🤪

It's been a while, but I've had two boats around this size and both were wonderful. The Microplus 16ft powerboat on the canal allowed exploration of places that would never have happened with a larger boat and the Montgomery 15 sailboat was great over a large part of the Chesapeake Bay. The key is to temper your expectations - it's not going to be luxurious. And be careful who you share the cabin with - with the wrong companion it's like sleeping in a telephone box with a whale. I have my doubts about the limitations imposed by an electric motor, but you will soon be an expert on that.
A friend of mine has a Chesapeake bay retriever. Just saying like.

Police carrying guns deserves a comment
Why? The police have had access to firearms for nearly ever. They will not have been routinely armed police but there are armed response units everywhere these days and they will have been sent to deal with the situation.

Speaking of ice caps, this is where I'm currently concentrating my concern (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/apr/06/simply-mind-boggling-world-record-temperature-jump-in-antarctic-raises-fears-of-catastrophe?ref=upstract.com). It's bad enough that the sea ice is breaking up which means that the glaciers can then dump more ice (water) into the oceans, but if Antarctica actually starts to thaw we will be in the deepest shit imaginable unless you live more than 190ft above sea level. If the Greenland ice sheet does the same you may need to live even higher.
Yaaay I am alright Jack, I live well above that level luckily and only a short drive to the local mountain which is even higher

My udson had a beta with electric lift pump from new. It's been common practice on the engine for years.

I know you won't see this, but...
Your rationale is that CM'ers will decide to leave the canal. Because, IMO, increasing the cost does not impose altered habits on people, it increases the cost.
.
I will quote your post so she can see it.............Oh, hang on a minute 😂

Houses don't use council facilities, people do.
There are too many bands at the bottom end and not enough at the top end. Any thing above 1 million pound are all in the same band so pay the same.
It would make much more sense to have a system based on occupancy rather than property value. Four adults pay double what two do etc etc. some people have expensive houses but are skint themselves so should pay the same for services as anyone else. The usual cop outs could still be applied. I am not moaning but I pay considerably more than my neighbour who is also a retired couple simply because my house is two bands higher than his. The use of services etc is identical. Maybe a system called poll tax or similar would be fairer.

The old ones are best eh!
I did go there by boat for a weekend once. The only reason we were safe is because the boat was painted a light grey colour and had a bloody big gun on the front and a missile launcher and several machine guns and SLR rifles onboard. It was an ok night scene but there are plenty better.

Council tax is always a fun thing to pay.
Yes and mine is going up Eleven percent from Monday.

Is you flue partially blocked? Crud can easily and quickly build up on the flat throat plate for instance. I suggest let fire go out and remove it for a proper look. Blockages force smoke and fumes out anywhere possible.

At least if you go to Liverpool by boat your car wheels will remain safe.

We got £3k off the purchase price of our first boat we bought, due to the survey. And they spotted the propeller nut wasn't present. So it worked out for us.
My last boat I got 13 K off because I turned up on a rainy cold day, didn't piss about with a survey and offered cash by bank transfer there and then. Twenty minutes from first turning up and I owned the boat. I did similar with the one before that and a couple of others. Enforced surveys for insurance purposes are however much harder to avoid.

I have to have a survey on my new boat which goes against the grain for me, but for full insurance I will have to do it
Mad isn't it, jobs for the boys Peter 😩

If that's about all they can find worth mentioning it's sounding like a good boat.

Worse than that, we bought a round of drinks in the Dundas Arms at Kintbury after bell-ringing and the price of it seemed so steep so we queried it with the barman. We knew drinks in there are nosebleed prices but this time it seemed so insanely expensive we asked the barman for a breakdown of it. He got the till to print out a receipt, which on close inspection included an automatic 10% Service Charge!!!!
Turned out that the till in there does this automatically on all bills of £30 or more, on the assumption that the bill must be for a meal in the restaurant. He explained this without even a hint of contrition and took it off as though doing us a favour.
The spectacular cheek of it has us wondering how many other times we've paid it without realising.
My lads brewery puts a 10 percent service charge on all the food bills. It is clearly stated on all menus and at the bar, its brewery policy so he has no say in the matter. I asked him last month when visting if it pissed people off and if many asked for it to be removed as it says they will on the bill. He said no one asks and often leave cash tip as well, imagine that in a pub in Yorkshire lol ( He is daarn saaarff ) He doesnt mind as the brewery accountants have a system that work out who was working and tax is paid on it to keep HMRC happy and they get the rest monthly in their wages. In tips alone he gets a grand a month and more such as december and his missus the same. Pre these kind of systems HMRC lost out on moocho tax,

They do look like Humber Keels. The landings on the right look very much like those at various places on the Trent but could be a number of places. I have a couple of fotos of my old Dad on the barge he worked on from 1934 somewhere, I can never find the fotos when I want them, he used to run out of Goole to Nottingham and Hull until WW2 took him to sea. We have very few fotos as people didn't foto every day stuff then like they do now.
