  1. Look at the money you are thinking of spending. Get your own survey done, worth it for the piece of mind. I got mine done by Eddie Freeman, very pleaant, very helpful, he picked up every little flaw and explained everything as he went along, wasnt even bothered by my constant questions.

Also helps in the negotiating over the price. B)

    I can second this comment.

  2. If I could apply a "blackie" to Carl and Chris' posts, I would. The network gets very busy at this time of year and condoning selfish behaviour only makes things worse. In any case, what is wrong with a good old fahioned moan especially when it is accompanyied by nice pictures! Isn't steam-letting one of this forum's services?

The "blackie's" were -ve red jobs until they were removed by the mods.

  3. Tiller strings, I believe it is a well tried tradition.

    ETA:

Alternative, splice a length of laid rope to a suitable snap shackle, attach to lifting hole in rudder, pull to one side and either splice a loop or tie off on the dolly.

  4. Mrs T has a teasmaid (teasmade?) very reliable, not only pours out the tea and milk but causes the cup to arrive at her bedside..................ME

  5. "Satan's wheelbarrow"   I'm crying with laughter!

Starry, you've missed your true vocation! You should be a professional writer!

There is a tongue-in cheek look at the role of the wheelbarrow on the waterways in the June edition of Canals rivers + boats

  6. Again, again, again, again, again, again, again, again, again, down, down, deeper and down

That's a good QUO..........te. Should restore the status.

    Acting my shoe size mode.

  7. No I don't think they can and the reason is that they are so far up their own arses and so full of their sense of importance that: -

    1) They wouldn't be seen dead in the Virtual Pub

2)They cannot believe that they are wrong so their immense egos will not allow them to STFU

"These are masters of the "me-universe" who expect the world to revolve around the axis of their own ego". :glare:

  8. This is something we have often wondered when we see rat boats. First how can anyone live in something like that, some look too small to have a toilet never mind a shower. Do the owners work ? If so how do they make sure they get to work without requiring their workmates to wear nose clips ? If they don`t work how did they buy the boats (not that they look that expensive mind) ? And how do they sign on ? Do they have to walk to the dole office ? And I thought you had to have a permanent address (and be available for work) in order to draw the dole ?

And finally...... I`m not having a go at anyone here, I`m just interested to know, how many of the people on those rat boats have, how can I put this, "social problems" ?

Some of the real "gems", who have been most helpful, I have met on the cut come from the scruffiest looking boats, not the "shiney boat brigade".

  9. One of the give aways of a Reeves hull is the shape of the arrow head at the forward end of the top rubbing strake at the back. Unfortunately I don't have a good enough picture.

The ends of the top rails on a Reeves hull are rounded not square as on Pheonix so I don't think it is a Reeves hull.

Interesting to note it says built by Phoenix Narrowboats of Coventry and the Pheonix is part of Coventry Citys coat of arms.
