I no longer bother to send NBW anything as they IMO fail to publish the truth and correct facts, also when you read on there about someone seeing the canal leaking at Coxton well before the problem and apparently not alerting anyone that says a lot for the reporters!
Have a greenie.
Sod it, I pressed my own button, mods could you please remove a greenie from my total, thank you.

Laurence, this is good news, thank you.
Here is a challenge - get Vince's statement published on Narrowboat World, should give the selfish nay sayers something to chew on!

Is Ventnor residential Ray?
Calcutt nearby are quite aggressively non-resi. Even so, there are still a couple of permanent liveaboards in there.
Ventnor is non residential apart from the harbour master and staff. Ventnor's sister marina Wigrams Turn is residential.
We specifically chose Ventnor because it is non residential.
Having never enquired I don't know what, if any price differential there is between the two marinas.
Does Braunston have different tariffs for residential and non - residential?

In May this year UK Boating did a feature on Hillmorton Marina which at the moment berths 24 boats. In part II of the programme the director of the marina mentioned that he had applied for planning permission to extend the marina in the field next to the existing marina. This would, if built would have vacancies for another 120 boats, new offices, shower rooms etc.
I wonder with the apparent lack of impact that Barby has had on take up and prices in the area whether Onley will?
If any one builds a new marina I feel to attract moorers they need to have it up and running, all facilities promised, on day one or offer a cheaper introductory fee if not.
At Ventnor we are paying considerably less than Braunston and a little less than the quoted on line cost of £2,200.

Completely , sorry about this but I cannot resist: Is this a precedent for working boats having the mooring rope on the tiller?

As far as I am aware Hurricane Heaters are tolerant of red diesel, Eberspachers aren't. Also you are not supposed to run an Eby for more than 4 hours at a time, I believe Hurricane can be run for 24 hours. Or so I was told by Calcutt Boats, who are Hurricane Heater distributors

If you do buy the boat these are BMC Marine specialists.

No connection, not even a satisfied or disatisfied customer as we have a Lister Petter powering our boat.

I was so cross at the doom and gloom written by the lady in question, that I did actually reply. I have also met this couple on several occasions and always feel the need to hide sharp instruments afterwards!
I really can't believe they are still on boats, You would have given up if life was really that bad, surely.I am afraid with some people not only is the glass half empty but it's cracked and dirty as well.
Have a greenie, made me laugh.
Just read the article, ye gods, what on earth is the writer doing on a boat. If that is her perception why does she bother? (Rhetorical question)

I like your optimism but if CRT fails then the canals will revert back to being state owned and managed.
If the government is handed back a poorly maintained system that will cost a fortune to put right then you can guarantee that it will turn its back, just like it did in the past.
Or another possibility, return to the previous thinking of "cruiseways", concentrate on the trunk routes and abandon the rest? Not a prospect I would relish as I love the little out of the way rural canals and so many have given their free time to achieve this.
We all know what we would like but at the end of the day we have to deal with reality as it is now. If folks want to change the set up of CaRT they need to lobby CaRT management, write letters etc., and not
postulate on a forum.
ETA I see little difference in principle giving to CaRT or for example, The Ashby Canal Trust if it maintains and / or expands the canal sysytem. As has also been said no one is forcing people to give.

Yes looks more "balanced" somehow.

When I passed Chase early September this year I noticed the Cratch board along with masthead light and the cratch cover have disappeared.

I'm kind of wishing I hadn't started the thread now (!), and didn't intend to drag you in to it, other than trying to point out that (on this occasion at least), Robin Evans, who is regularly criticised for sitting in an ivory tower just collecting a large salary and bonuses, was actually out talking to people who care about the canals.
IWe had a cracking weekend - I hope you did to. I certainly assume the event must have been financially successful ??
Alan, I have started threads with the best of intentions, as I sure many others have, only to find them go off on a tangent I never envisaged. This unfortunately is the way forums appear to function.
Take heart, the majority on this forum know your observations were well intended.

We have full documentation on our boat from the build order to ownership by us.
The two times the boat has been sold, by the same broker (Calcutt Boats Ltd.) the MCA Bill of sale version has been used.
I don't know if this is of any use?

Hadn't expected this......
Robin Evans was at the event today, and spent some time talking to Lorna York.
I think she may have been bending his ear with an idea or two of things she would like to see happen.
All very low key, but they do come and talk to boaters sometimes......
"No one expects the ........" oops wrong forum.
I am sorry to say that if Robin walked past me on the tow path I wouldn't recognise him!
Good of him to turn up though.

Excitement at Shardlow yesterday, two police helecoptors, two van loads police dogs, a police car and one copper on a mountain bike which happened to have a dynamo on its back wheel working a blue flashing light on his helmet, which has to be said, was not flashing very quickly, searching boats for a white bearded male (no not Santa Clause, too early, albeit only just)
update to follow.............
Is this another finding money in boat story?
Remember the story of the little boy who cried "wolf"?

I couldn't agree more about both the wildlife section and the vole population. It is literally years since I saw one.
We saw 3 voles and two kingfishers on our trip on The Ashby early September.
I was speaking to the guy who lives at the terminus at Snareston and he said that mink have been eradicated from the Ashby Canal.

We have cruised on hire NB's without cratch covers, and our own boat has one.
We wouldn't be without it, It provides a place to leave muddy boots, clean the dog after a walk.etc. It also supplies a modicum of insulation in that it stops wind blowing through the vents we have in the front doors.

The difference between a dog and a wife?
Lock them both in the garage for two hours then see who's most pleased to see you when you open the door!
