  1. being partly agoraphobic i have loads of irrational fears but my worst one is going in buildings where you have to walk through lots of corridors or supermarkets... oh and a fear of her indoors going in to town with my credit card.... makes me shudder to even think of it....
  2. thanks for the advice liam, damp is something we have thought about but if we can find the ideal cottage then we can live with that.... the hardest part is finding them for sale... have to look through every estate agent thats located near a canal system....
  3. thanks for that scotty... the one in brum looks interesting... does anyone know this area at all?the one in somerton went for £213,000 but had no road access.. half mile walk to get there and also no mains power or sewerage... but for oxfordshire it was a bargain....doesnt have to have a mooring ... canalside would do so doesnt have to be a lock cottage
  4. hi all, just want to know if anyone knows of a lock cottage for sale, not fussed where in the country as long as its rural, we just missed the one at somerton deep lock at it sold for a bargain... just typical... if anyone know of one please let me know.... thanks dave and mandy

  10. congratulations mate.... i hope you really enjoy it you lucky sod.... some of us are still wwaiting for the right boat...
  11. im not a resi , were not on the water yet... i was just asking thats all.....
  12. so if you have a mooring in a marina you can stay in marina for 4 days and then pop out into the cut for 3 dys and then back to marina for the 4 days and so on?
  13. good luck and i hope it all turns out ok on the survey....
  14. braunston isnt to far from us so will deffo go there and collect parts and will need a few pints to settle my nerves after the big spend.... thanks for all the links, theres some great sites ..... also im an ebay addict so nothing will get past me if theres a bargain to be had....
  15. phew!! didnt think there were so many places... midland chandlers site is great, looks like you can get nearly everything from them... thanks for all your help... robbins looks good also for the veneer and not as expensive as i thought it would be....
  16. im trying to now price up for our boat project so wondering which is the best online for buying bits to fitout a self build ?
  17. i think i will have a mini remote camera fitted at the front of our 70ft'r .... i was joking but now ive said it it dont sound such a bad idea... i will add that to my inventory....
  18. thats is a good deal but i was thinking if someone wanted a liveaboard or needed a boat with more space or even if someone wanted to upgrade from a cruiser... ive only ever had cruisers and i love them to bits and are alot cheaper to maintain than a nb ... but were now looking to live on the cut fulltime so cruisers are not really upto the job... not big enough and insulation has always been a problem with our old cruisers....
  19. i meant a bargain if you want a narrowboat.... 8.5k is still alot of money but not alot for a 45ft narrowboat.... your sailer is a bargain but not much cop on a canal.... not a great lover of the sea as a bit more unforgiving than still water.... good luck with it.. something doesnt sound right about the boat with no info but its a boatyard sale by look of it so a bit more comeback i suppose.... if its stolen i mean ..... im very tempted but not really big enough for my needs.... good old dawncraft... i had a 25ft centre cockpit one years ago at kings sutton on oxford canal... i think its still sat there in the rear garden of the cottage.... been there years and last i heard it was for sale for 1k... my first boat was a dolphin 24ft which cost £800 in 1994 ......
  20. still a bargain for someone who wants to get on the water on a budget....
  21. hi, we had one of the propex systems in our old vw camper and it was superb... gas lasted an age and warmed the van up in a couple of minutes... we had ours for a few years and never broke... were getting one for our boat when its built... same reason as you to warm the bedroom up in the cold mornings... as for where to mount it im not to sure.. were thinking in the bedroom somewhere so there isnt to much heat loss through ducting....
  22. i would have a tug but her indoors would say otherwise...
  23. thanks bottle .... just had a look through that and i really think 70ft is going to be a bit tight and restrictive... im thinking maybe 60-65ft is looking like the best compromise..... where in glos are you bottle? i was born in cheltenham and brought up in tewkesbury.... i really do miss tewkesbury but work etc means living near kidlington oxon......
  24. thats great... the only reason we didnt choose a 70ft boat is the lack of places to be able to turn around and harder to find a mooring .... do you have any pics of your boat or a rough diagram of a plan of layout? how big are there 2 other bedrooms? do you have enough storage space if used as a liveaboard? only if you dont mind ..... thanks... i really do think a 70ft boat will be a much better boat for using as a liveaboard.....where abouts cant you go with your boat? we will be mooring on the oxford canal....
