  1. thanks for your comments.... we really need is 3 seperate bedrooms as we have a son and daughter so need there own space... and a fixed double berth... were maybe thinking going upto 65ft if need be.. just have to visit the smaller length lock areas in a few years when the kids have flown the nest....
  2. hi all, me and the wife are really looking into buying a narrowboat but we want a boat thats got 3 seperate bedrooms, 1 double and 2 single rooms... we really want it no longer than 58ft as we would like to cruise the whole system.... it will be a liveaboard so wondered if anyone here has any idea if its possible to get everything in ? ie. lounge, galley, bathroom and the 3 beds... is there any software to help design the boat ? if it helps we want semi-trad as this seems the best setup for maximum room ... any help would be great....
  3. what happened with plain vanilla? we didnt see the boat there... must be blind as it stands out well enough....
  4. had a really good day there today.... great show and them morris dancers must of been sweating like mad... fell in love with dover but a bit out of our price range....kids were excited as alan was there with dover.... looked like the m25 in rush hour on the cut, glad i didnt have to try and manouver through all them....
  5. when and where is the next boat show for narrowboats? theres one this weekend but i cant remember where.... my memory is really naff !!!!!
  6. i would have one but i bet they go for alot more than the guide price.... wonder what the chances of getting a mooring out front are???? anyone here know the area?

  9. i looked on there site but doesnt look like its been updated lately so wasnt to sure if they were still operating.... i gather they couldnt of opened a boat yard like they advertised...
  10. are they still in buisness? just wondered as i was flicking through an old canal mag and noticed there local to me..... also in this advert it says there just starting to build a small marina at enslow mill warf... did they ever finish it as i never thought there was one there, the mag is dated dec 04...
  11. pershore you lucky sod.... i used to cycle there when i was a kid.. i used to live in northway tewkesbury until i was about 11 years old... used to go miles on our bikes upto twyning and evesham.... whats it like being on the avon? rivers always scare me as there so unpredictable....

  14. steve that sounds a great idea... as to being able to sell the berths i think you would be surprised how quick they would be snapped up.... i for one would be up for it... like you said the only problem would be the land and planning permission but if you can get bw on your side it would make things alot easier...
  15. just got a quote from norwich union of £155.07 a year for 2 million cover.... not to bad me thinks.....
  16. minefield it is...... im just not the sort of person that would just give up before really lloking into it properly..... but its not looking promising at the moment.... i might just have to put my feet up on the boat and relax and enjoy the wildlife and peace and watch the world go by until her indoors gets home.... someone say something positive... there must be a positive somewhere.....
  17. so far i have found out that the license would be £1400 per year , 50% can be deducted if earnings are less than £45000 per year which im sure it would be so thats not to bad...my wife has health and hygiene certifacetes because of her job... so where would i go to get a quote on public liability? any idea what the cost would be roughly??? what else would be needed? refrigerated food products might have to be reconsidered... doing my own accounts shouldnt be to much of a problem as ive helped with friends accounts in the past... i would have a permanent mooring aswell but will also travel the system as and when we can... i will have to have a chat with you gary about building a boat as you seem to be the ideal candidate and also i like the idea of the straight sides for more space....
  18. thanks for your thoughts... ice cream shouldnt be a problem... some interesting ideas there,,,, butty sounds a good idea but that also ads to mooring costs and extra bw license... not thinking of a big shop space (not tesco size yet) somthing about 10-12ft in length... i was thinking of not carrying to many perishables...mainly tins and packets which have a long sell by date.. also taking orders for things as the wife will be travelling everyday to work and back its easy enough for her to collect things on the way back... would it make a difference on costs if items were sold through side hatch so then members of public would not be boarding the boat? liability insurance wouldnt be needed then.... so many questions but my motto is you only live once and if you dont try you will forever wonder what if...
  19. me and the wife have now had a long discussion to what i can do while shes away working as ive been signed off as to ill to work since april after being with the same company 12 years....as we are still living in a house with the intention of now selling the house and having a narrowboat built to our own spec we quite like the idea of having part of the boat as a shop for selling food, milk, bread etc etc....your opinions on this idea would be great.... it wont be done as a big profit thing just something for me to do during the day to keep me sane....we will be travelling the system aswell as mooring for a couple of months here and there...is there much call do you think for a small mobile shop? from expierience i know it can be a pain to go off miles to look for a shop when you only want a couple of bits...... do you know any builders that could incorparate a small shop area into a build? were looking at buying a 57" semi trad and having a small area at the front of the boat as a shop with no access into the rest of the cabin as we want an end fixed bedroom...... opinions would be great....
  20. if you do a search on this forum on mdf there is a discussion about using mdf... do a search for mdf and it should coe up...oh and welcome.... dave crikey gary... do you ever rest???? you must breath boats !!! abit of a nitemare for your lads in the last week with the heat and welding i bet...poor sods....
  21. http://www.woodlands.co.uk/par-crome-wood.htm this is damn tempting.... shame you cant reach canal system though..
  22. link not working.... sounds nice...
  23. were looking to spend no more than about 50k really... i gather you still have to pay bw money for the mooring aswell....
  24. thanks for the info... atleast i now know they are out there... i will keep my eyes peeled and ears open... ive just took a subscription to towpath paper.... just out of curiosity what is your mooring worth? just to give me an idea of rough i will be looking at... any idea of the best area to be hunting around as were not really to fussed where we buy as we will be cruising most of the year.... cheers dave and mandy
