  10. It would take me forever, but i don't like to rush. With my engine, a 10hp single, i'd struggle down the Thames anyway.
  11. In Jericho, Oxford they actually have BW signs stating that the running of engines in moored boats is not permitted, at least they did in 2005. The liveaboards near there seem to plonk all their mess and junk onto the tow-path. I'm not against liveaboards, just messy people with little consideration. I did like the cruise and the canal so don't be put off, enjoy the trip and have pint at Thrupp.
  12. Hi. I cruised from Llangollen to Oxford a few years ago. Cropredy and Thrupp are well worth the stop. The last few miles into Oxford is, or at least was, not so pleasant with liveaboards making a bit of a mess and Oxford not looking after it's canal at all well. Maybe someone will correct me saying it's alot better now. If you do stop near Oxford watch out if you have to run your engine to charge the battery as I got told off by a miserable lady who didn't like the sound of my single cylinder popping away.
  13. Are you trying to say that BW look after the walkers and generally everybody other than boaters.. how cynical.
  14. You'll have to get used to using alot less electricity, most of us manage it. A solid fuel stove for heating. Only watch the tv when something goods on, that'll restrict use considerably! I run my engine for about 2 hours a day to give enough charge in the battery for an evening, but really i need to cruise a bit to get a good charge in them. You could try solar panels as they work well to help keep the battery topped up, but wind turbines are less effective and make alot of noise if mounted on the boat itself. I'm sure you'll cope fine.

  22. I just get so wound up about unecessary regulations stopping you doing something you've done all your life without a problem! I agree completely! ( gent, by the way)
  23. That's good news. But what about the newly published guide for solid fuel stoves, mine and almost every other boat will not comply as no one installs an insulated flue or leaves an air gap below the hearth, or a stove in the back cabin in the same room as the fuel tanks etc etc.
  24. Congrats.. Casper's is due later this year, it passed fine last time but no doubt some rule has changed that will cost me money to make compliant
  25. Just a question.. My Dad has a 16x14 prop and it is under-propped. His draft will not allow for a larger diameter. I'm not sure how diameter and pitch calculations go but he's on about replacing his prop with a 15x17. Is that actually any bigger?
