  1. Im not sure if this is allowed or if i need to start a new thread but its been ages and thought id do a update of the boat and its progress, as its as good as done now. i had some rather negative feedback regarding the bath on a 34foot ( thats a point i thought it was 30 foot and its not its 34 haha) buuuuuuut bath is installed and fits well it is a small bath admittedly ( only a 4 foot with seat bit in it) and the water tank storage worked out really well too, i was hoping for 1000 litres but had to settle with 900 litre water bladder in a ply box thats been fiber glassed and lined with carpet underlay and carpet. i was still concerned about condensation (put it down to my job) but to remedy this i have a built in dehumidifier built into a cubord in the bathroom that can reach under the floors behind and under all the cuboards as well as around and in the water tank box via vents. and a big "worst case senario bilge pump" granted its just run when plugged in or running on a jenny but the pump works from the 12v system. i decided againced the under floor storage too due to the pain in the ass it would have been to do that through stone flags and the advice on here but have got 12 brass vents on the floor for checking under the floor and venting under the floor again due to my fear of damp and condensation i decided not to put balast under the floors and rather lay a flag stone floor in the boat so the floor now is both the balast and the floor itself. was brought up in a house with flags, lovley and cool in summer and once warm they hold the heat in the winter. the windows i went with are double glazed upvc ( i know hated by the traditionalists) but they are warm....... maybe too warm but no condensation and the windows are easily buy passed when walking down the gunnels and if the window pane breaks its a £40 fix to change the glass, seems like a no brainer to me. and the eyebrows welded over the tops and down the sided are amazing!!! they work really well but again probally not for the traditionalist i also decided againced the skylights in the end, the boats roof is too small and didnt want to loose all that roof smace for skylights when i may do solar panels. the de rust was a nightmare but a weirdly enjoyable one in the end inside was re rusted vaktaned red oxideded and 3 coats of cromar acryl poly roof fix gear we use on the roofs. outside was de rusted and back to metal. the hull had 3 epoxy primer and about 6 jotun, the top has been 2 epoxy primer and about 4 epoxy top coat. there was a hell of alot of welding, and i learnt that you can get sunburn from a welder hahah....... learnt the hard way. admittedly it has taken longer than expected mainly due to having to work away alot, but it has been fun and im not in the market to buy another boat in a similar condition if not worse to play with now but bigger. But i can say i have honestly enjoyed every minit so far, dispite the horific welding sun burn loosing my thumb in a table saw doing the windows, being coverd in epoxy paint and chemical burns. but all in all thankyou for all the helpfull comments they did help, i did take notice and i really appreciate the help. to all the less than helpfull comments................... i pulled it off, and im doing another one. hahahah will upload photos at some point ......... hopfully sooner than a year for a update this time too. and sorry for the spelling. hahahhaa
  2. Dewlt here too, I cut off the top straps and just use the bottom ones and have minimal ride up on the leg, there comfortable too
  3. Ohhhhhhh gotcha so effectively I need to bear in mind to a certain extent that when it comes to sell that so.e things will put people off Right im with you 👌👌 simplicity is king 👌👌
  4. Did it sink 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
  5. Whats a Whitefield 😳😳......
  6. Hahaha I love your difficulty range. ....... but that is a brilliant idea 🤔🤔🤔
  7. Well I'm glad I havent had anyone say my ideas were stupid haha I think the blower/extractors my be slightly over engineered from the sound of it. While I'm here as to the mention of keeping ballast off the plate what I was planning to do was do one more coat of thick bitumen and basicly cock a load of plastic BBs (the type for a BB gun) in there so they stick to the bitumen. To me that makes sence but wanted another opinion before I do it haha. Also a back boiler was mentioned...... how effective are they 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
  8. I've found so.e mari e 12v blowers and extractors and was planning to have them on a timer to go on and off...... predominantly when I'm out As to hot water I was planning on lpg seems alot easier than the big tank thing
  9. I'm prety good with most stuff and if I dont know how to do something I know somone who does. And I should have .entio ed that the boats in a boat yard atm with people there that can help if/when I end up , up s##t creek without a paddle haha I'm planning to weld the current windows up so I can place them as and where I want them opposed to where they will fit 👌👌 Should have mentioned ed that too...... sorry
  10. Ahh balls so upvs windows are out 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Does anyone have any ideas on good windows that tend to decrease condensation or is condensation just a ongoing battle ill have to get used to??
  11. Way ahead of you Vactan done followed by I bitumen primer and 2 blackjack 😃😃 But thats not nearly as much fun
  12. Hi I have a few idea id like to run by you all. I have bought a 30ft cruiser stern narrowboat. Internal dimensions are roughly 18ft x 6ft. It is a empty shell, no floor walls ceiling doors or windows. I bought it to live in while I'm working away not full time. I'm in construction so have a good idea of how things work and how things go together. I've had a few ideas id effectively like a yay a nay or a dont be a idiot on as you all on here have a far more experienced outlook on all things narrowboat. I'm planning that from the stern will be entry via the door to the right (not central) Toilet room to the left Kitchen to the left past that Then sitting room/bath ( you'll understand when you read on) With the bed at the front 1. Windows. From a logical point of veiw....... not a traditional one haha ........ upvc windows attacked with a router to give a 15mm outside lip externally glued on the outside and fixed into the battening inside 2. Window water defences Welded over and to the sides of the window, 30mm x 4mm flat steel bar welded at 90 degrees to stop/slow water ingress from water from the roof coming in the top of the window and cross wind driving it in the sides. 3. Condensation defence I was thinking air blowers and extractors into the bilges and around the water tank, effectively one blowing outside air in and another sacking it out and out the boat via a vent. 4. Bath Planning on almost completely open plan with the 4ft bath opposite the log burner. The bath also having a fold up fold down top, one side being a table top the other being waterproof. Water storage wont be a issue (with me calcs) worked out that within the bow and half the under bed area at the front of the bed 5. Skylights Planning on a few skylights (triple glazed) on welded frames. One over the bed One over the bath shower, mainly to gain height. 6. Blacking Bitumen I gather is the option predominantly used. In my time roofing we used to use a product called cromapol acrypol that is the dogs nuts and keeping water out and taking a beating from life and sticks like s##t it a mattress to everything g and anything. It does come in black as well as grey. Has anyone heard of it, used it or have any thoughts on it. 7. Outside taps Thought outside hot and cold taps at the bow would be a good idea?? I get filthy at work and usualy pre wash befor I come inside anyway and thought it might be a good idea to have both hot and cold available outside. 9. Log burner Obviously want a burner. What sort of Kw size am I going to need?? 10. Under floor storage Want to have a almost full length under floor storage area to check the bilge and also for storage, good idea/bad idea? I'm sure there are more things but I cant think of them now, let me know your thoughts, dont be shy to say "your a moron, dont be thick" hahaha
