  1. We woke up to this view out our kitchen window! Tree came down across the canal last night but didn't notice at the time. Doesn't seem to be any damage to the boat. http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/y411/Desmogixus/5b690209c113970b97d9d9c28bbe5b1b_zpsfa0bca3e.jpg
  2. Yep Athy wood was stacked before departure and managed to make it to Heyord before dark What's more found a mooring (not always easy around here) So all's well etc...etc... Out of interest the choppers when they arrived were wearing CRT rig So in summary I've been very happy with the service received today And thanks one and all for your interest and comments
  3. OK here's the update Called CRT at 9:15 this morning very polite but not to specific about when they could attend. 10:30 two bods turned up did a bit of head scratching and exclaimed "we're gonna need a chain saw" 13:40 three bods turned up with said chain saw and got to work As of now tree removed navigation clear Good response and prompt action many thanks and plaudits for CRT Only problem now is a single hander just passed me as I was getting ready to proceed so locks against me all the way Oh we'll can't have everything
  4. Yeah. Had a go with a bow saw earlier but still not shifting. Not too concerned as there are worse places to be stranded. However, sent a text to CRT incident number found on their web site. Just got a response back, saying text to speech message has been rejected... Will call them in morning.
  5. A tree has fallen across the canal just above Pigeons lock. We were unable to shift it and it is impassible. Will have to wait for CRT.
  6. We used Coflex which is a very similar product. We did 2 full coats (not including baseplate) and an additional coat on the waterline. 3 and half cans. Our boat is 70ft.
  7. Hi HGL I think I can give you some of the answers you are looking for, we looked at Minerva and Probatica when they were for sale at Alvechurch in 2008. The condition of both boats was pretty poor (including the engine rooms flooded up to the engine bearers) as they had been sitting for a year without much enthusiasm from either the staff at Alvechurch or the owners (still WMPS). Anyway after a bit of negotiation we bought Probatica (mainly because we preferred the newer engine in her and we felt that Minerva would be a harder re fit as she was laid out as a floating restaurant ). if my memory serves me right the paper work we had stated that Probatica was built in 84 with Minerva being built a year later. The boats about 6 in all were built at Minerva wharf in Wolverhampton by lads on probation under the supervision of a couple of different boat builders, I'm not sure who supervised the building of Minerva but I may be able to give you a couple of leads if you want to try and research it. I've been looking out to see if Minerva would pop up again as my minimal research drew a blank as to her whereabouts we where given to understand by Alvechurch (both boats sold within a short space of time in the end) that the purchasers planned to keep her as a restaurant. I'm also in casual contact with the owners of Carp 2 one of the other boats built by WMPS and have a small number of pics from the working days thanks to one of the volunteer skippers. As for Probatica we still live aboard although she has had a name change and yes after 5 years we are STILL working on the conversion, and spend our year around the Thames ring Regards Chris (Posting on the missus log in)
  8. Thanks for the responses. We did think of scrap metal option but seriously didn't think anyone would want contaminated material, including recycling centres. I will try ringing some metal dealers and see if any are interested in picking up. It is mild steel by the way, not stainless. We are mainly removing them because we want a different shaped tank for a new layout. However they are relatively old and we thought worth changing while we were re-fitting. If anyone wants them they are welcome to take them away:) We are near Northampton on the GU.
  9. We have two steel toilet waste tanks on our boat that we would like to remove to replace with one new. We are trying to work out best way of having these disposed. Ideally we would want someone to take away for us. However if we did have to remove ourselves what options do we have to dispose of them? They are not fitted so can be moved, although very heavy. Does anyone know of any persons or companys who do this sort of thing, or of options for disposing of the tanks ourselves?
