Risky strategy planning against an old points list.
It’s the time scales I’m exploring at the moment but I doubt the points will change much

Did you manage to get into it?
Theres something in the entrance that lets you slide in easy enough but is a right git to pole back out again.
We were in Rivets so we went as far up towards the next bridge before it got too shallow

Last time through on Ferrous was July 2021 and the Wolverhampton level was brimming. It just fitted under the gauge but lots of room in the tunnel at the lowest point
-
It is lower. Best to go from Parkhead as the gauge is about 2” higher and there’s no quibble

Would Ferrous fit the tunnel? They are apparently stricter these days and the gauge is supposedly lower since the earthquake.
When was the earthquake?

I am considered entering and using the Saturday to get myself to the finish point via the most challenging available route. A bit of a @Laurie Booth on steroids kind of affair. Plus it has the added advantage of not having to get up at stupid o'clock on Sunday to do even more boating. It'll depend on what I know needs to be done in the way of organisation at the finish point on the Saturday. It might not be possible.
Maybe I could set a benchmark score whereby those finishing lower have to buy a pint for those finishing above. Although if I single hand for 16 hours you might find I score pretty competitively.
I have also considered using the weekend to leg through Dudley Tunnel again. However the DC&TT may not be able to resource any attempts to transit the tunnel on a Bank Holiday weekend. That's something I will check with them before issuing scoring sheets. I know they would have refused any requests last year because I inquired about doing it on the day before the Challenge last year. This year it's not a Bank Holiday on the day before of course, so it might be possible that day even if the weekend is out.
We would consider going through Dudley Tunnel on the Sunday and I’m sure Ferrous would as well, if we could show a joint interest to Becky at the trust well in advance I suspect the outcome would be more favourable

That’s fantastic! Unfortunately there’s not a lot of space in Rivets for a trolly or two!

The only problem with that is this year's finished at Withymoor, so unless the scoring system was significantly changed the routes would be largely the same (although there may be one less closure to deal with which would make a difference). Mind you, it was a nice place to finish and very convenient for us, so I wouldn't complain.
It would be handy if CRT could be prevailed upon to provide a rubbish skip though - perhaps add some points for rubbish collected by weight? Given our draught we dredge up a lot that others run straight over, so I reckon we might be on to a winner with that!

Always thought it would be a good idea to get extra points for fishing rubbish out of the canal during the challenge

There have been suggestions that Rivets 5000 makes an excellent diving platform

Don’t know what you’re talking about 😂😂😂

I think the two of us on Rivets were glad to survive the event!
cunning plans for next year hopefully not thwarted by bridge closures and paddle boarders! Fantastic event and really enjoyed it again after a break of about 30years! Thanks to all who took part and all who organised. I think it’s safe to say will be back!- 3

We were on the BCN Challenge a few years ago, going up the Rushall flight until we got to the long pound which was well down and Fulbourne went hard aground. Ferrous came up the lock behind us, managed to get past and took us in tow. Given that it must have a lesser draft than Fulbourne there must be a pretty big prop behind Ferrous's 5LW. Because we were dragged along the rest of the pound at reasonable speed - shake, rattle and roll as we bounced our way over bricks, rocks and goodness knows what else. A good job we didn't know at the time quite how thin some of Fulbourne's bottom is!
Ferrous is running a 3lw and 24” prop

If my memory is correct it was originally fitted with an LE Velocete engine. It is now fitted with a 2cl Kubota, Don't know how the licencing system updates but it probably has a one month licence to cover the BCN challenge.
The original engine was an Austin 7 engine and gearbox the Velocette was a later power plant and then a petter. The Kubota is my creation coupled to a reliant regal box

For some species, possibly.
I like it. Can't be more that 3' 6" in width. Can't see much point in having a brass tiller when the wooden one seems more practical. What's the engine? Any one know?
Think I would prefer a motorised skiff with overnight canopy. Must be fun though.
The brass one is scale and actually works better than the little one I knocked up to trial for the weekend. The little one works well for hard steering.
