  1. I've searched and read Gibbo's excellent smartguage site, but i'm still clueless! We have: 2 x Alternators (not sure on size) 1 x 240v Electrolux Travelpack 1 x Sterling ProDigital charger (30a or 40a, not sure) 1 x Smartguage (not actually connected yet) 6 x 110ah batteries Currently the Sterling isn't wired to the Travelpack, so when the engine is running, the alternators are charging the batteries. When we return to the marina and hook-up to the shoreline, the Sterling then kicks in and charges the batteries. We are expecting to CC in the near future so we will be heavily reliant on the batteries. A friend of ours suggested that the Sterling would charge the batteries better than the alternators, but i thought i'd ask the question here to double check. Question is.... Do i leave the charging system alone, and charge via the alternators? Do i wire the Sterling to work from the Travelpack in conjunction with the alternators to provide more charging power? Do i rely on the Sterling alone, and disconnect the alternators, if they would interfere with each other? I'm sorry i can't provide more information on the alternators, as i'm really not mechanically minded! i'm looking to reduce the charge time as much as possible, while keeping the batteries as well maintained as i can. I know this is the holy grail, and i'll never achieve it, but i'd like to use what equipment i've got to its best. I hope i won't need my flak jacket, tin hat and bomb shelter for asking this question! Thanks, Marc
  2. 'different'? You expecting flat caps and whippets? Or just a lack of apple-juice drinkers?

  13. Speaking of poi.... found a video of the girl that taught me and bon how to do it (though we are nowhere near as good!) http://vimeo.com/655163 enjoy!
  14. We always moor between b&q and the bridge, and have never had a problem in 3 years. Most of the drunken malarky tends to come from our boat anyway!
  15. Gary, Is there a way for you to point that Java client at the same IRC server? Seems a shame to have a split chat, where some can't work out how to use IRC, and some can't use a java client. For those that want a java access to the IRC side: Click Here, then where it says Applet version, put fr3ak.is-a-geek.com in the server box, and #cwdf in the channel box, click Connect and you are in! There's 3 of us on at the moment, 2 bored at work, and one retired! marc.
  16. I can't get the other one to work on my eee (ubuntu 8.04, i think it's a java issue, but not sure) i can set up a java access to the irc room for people that want to chat via their web browser though.
  17. Sorry, those instructions were just a quick test to see if people could connect, and see if the site crew were happy with the chat idea being there. Having spoken to Liam, i'll post up some easy to follow instructions so everyone can get in and chat, Has been a blast today, with Me, Grahoom, Ally, Liam, and Janet having a chat. I think there was a nbtafelberg too at one point? Will chat more with Liam, and get this thing running..... Virtual Banter anyone??!?!??! Marc.

  20. Well, as an experiment (and the fact that i'm bored at work!), i've setup a CWDF irc channel on a private network. For those with an irc client installed, the link is : irc://fr3ak.is-a-geek.com/cwdf For those without a client, if you are using firefox, then the ChatZilla addon is probably the easiest to use. Install chatzilla, restart firefox, then paste that link into your firefox address bar. If there's any objection to me doing this, please pm me, and i'll take the server down. cheers! Marc #edited as firefox doesn't hyperlink irc:// links....
  21. We use it all the time for repairing gutters on conservatories that are leaking. The stuff in the link works well, even when the gutter is full of water, and does seal when submerged. best of luck! Marc.
  22. I did consider that, but then the politics of "ops" comes into it if it does become busy, so didn't want to tread on anyones toes by doing the bot myself. If there's no objections from the site crew, then i'm more than happy to set it up and write a guide for the non-techies to get in there If you choose one of the quieter networks (something obscure like the funcom server) then getting plagued by 10 year old kids or spambots won't be an issue. The only probs i can see with "speak" chat over "type" chat is bandwidth, and if there's 10+ people chatting at the same time, it can be hard to work out who's saying what (had this issue with a ventrillo server i used to use).
  23. I thought i'd dust off the cobwebs in this section of the forum, and post up something that's been swirling around the old grey matter for a while. As a grey-haired old internet fogey, i regularly use IRC to chat to various groups of people. It's fast, fun, and useful. I was thinking that some of us CWDF users might get some benefit from an IRC chat room? Hosting obviously won't cost anything, as we could bung a bot on efnet (or any of the hundreds of others out there) for free that can sort out "ops" for the mods etc. i think it's a shame that IRC has lost favour to these various instant messaging malarky things, as it's nice to have somewhere you can join when you are feeling chatty and in need of a bit of banter! Well, over to you lot to decide if it's a useful idea..... cheers, Marc
  24. I'd just apply copious amounts around the outside of the joint.
