  1. Sorry to bump this old thread, but I thought that I'd let you all know how I got on ... in the end I ought a Pro Combi Q 1600, refurbished, from Sterling on Ebay. All went well until the thing just stopped after 5 months - I contacted Charles, as I couldn't remember whether there was a 3 or 6 month warranty - his response? "No problem, get it back here and I'll take a look at it." As a postscript - when I took the unit out, same water ran out of the box - there had been a small leak directly above it, and once it was dried out the unit returned to perfect working order, so there was no need to return it. So, from my point of view, Sterling were very helpful, and the unit is amazing - although I wouldn't necessarily recommend immersing one... P.S. I did fix the leak though...

  3. Interesting.... *strokes chin thoughtfully* where do you get the Kipoint stuff? All I can find is Ebay (Germany).
  4. Thanks for the info everyone! I think that my mind is made up - can't afford the alternatives, so my money will be going to Charles S.
  5. Inverter chargers. I'm in the market for one at the moment, and being a Yorkshireman with short arms and deep pockets I'm naturally drawn to the "value" end of the price spectrum. Which is where the Sterling sits... now having read the forums for a while, I get the impression (rightly or wrongly) that the quality control for these units isn't (or wasn't) too good, with a high percentage of returns. But what I'd like to know is: when they do work - do you rate them? Are they reliable? Do they do what it says on the tin? Help me decide where to spend my hard earned! Any other feedback would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance, Ott3r.
  6. I hope that I'm not hijacking this thread, but as it seemd to be on the right topic.... I'm also looking at repainting my boat, and being on a tight budget, I want to do most of the work myself. At the moment the biggest job that I can see ahead is the preparation. I was considering getting a company to do the preparation using Ultra High Pressure water jetting.. I've been quoted £800 for the job, and was wondering if anyone else has used his sort of service, and whether the knowledgable folks out there think that it's a good option?
  7. I've just been looking at these inverter chargers on Ebay (Item number: 380047885051) - they seem to be just what I need, and at a price I can afford Has anybody bought on of these? Any feedback - good or bad? Thanks! O
  8. Thanks for the advice and good wishes! Unfortunately there's now a spanner in the works - a new job means that I won't be able to take any time off for some time, so it looks like someone else will have the pleasure of the journey . If there's anyone who can recomend a delivery service - please send me a PM.. Thamks in advance, Ott3r
  9. No particular reason for the route other that it's the one that the canalplanner gave me, but I must say that your route sounds more scenic! Thanks for the idea... *recalculating* Ott3r
  10. Thanks for the info Machpoint- probably should have specified the route.. I'll be going throught the Stratford Canal, Grand Union, Birmingham Navigations, Staffordshire and Worcestershire, Shropshire Union, Trent and Mersey, Bridgewater and finally Leeds Liverpool! Ott3r
  11. Hi, I'm a newcomer here and have just aquired my first boat. I was hoping that someone might be able to help me with advice on a major trip that I'll be undertaking (major for me that is). My boat is currently on the Avon near Stratford, and my new moorings are on the Leeds-Liverpool (at the Leeds end), so I need to get the boat from one palce to the other.. I've used the excellent canalplan route planner, and got my itinery (14 days!) but as I will need to do the trip in 2-3 stages I was hoping for some advice on safe places where I can leave the boat (near a railway station if possible) for a few days on the journey. Before anyone asks - transporting it by road is way out of my price range. Any other advice on the trip would be very much appreciated too! Thanks in advance, Ott3r
