  1. or find others to moor near. Quite alot of debris in places around brum so you might need to clean off the prop every now and again.

Think thats about all I can think of for now. Any other questions just ask.

  2. Hi, Uptons nice to stop if all you want is lunch and Worcesters good to if you want a bit more to do.

How close to Birmingham are you getting? If your going into the center be warned it gets really noisey at night round by all the bars. I'm sure there are quite places to moor but we haven't found it yet. On the outskirts/ its a bit sketchy to moor. I'd wait until your out in t...

  3. Nope, he goes to London once a month and pays 'Mr Ducktails' to do it for him. He does use a hair dryer as well yet I have never owned one. He's into the whole 50's scene and has a rather high upkeep Pompadour. I feel like a right scruff next to him most days... maybe i've shared a little to much lol. I'm generally a take me as you find me kind of girl. The only make up I ever wear in the day is mascara and I don't really do anything with my hair other than stick it back in a pony tail but every now and again its nice to have the option of getting glammed up. Infact i've done it twice this weekend (hard work digging out two going out outfits from the boxes of rarely worn clothes under the bed.) and will do again next weekend as its my birthday. I'll also be out on the boat for a couple of days so best of both worlds next weekend.
  4. Oi! You know there are some of us boaty girls that like boats and hair straightners. Your more likely to hear my bf moaning about doing locks than me.
  5. Canal planner says 3 days 3 hours. We did it from Tardebigge top lock in two days with a team of two or three and a little single handing from me. Wouldn't recomend it though. Stratford was pretty busy when we got there but managed to find a spot in the basin. Plenty of moorings just out on the river but I guess if your not going out that way then you wouldn't want to moor out there.

  7. £100 for something that would last a while i can just about understand but I was looking at getting my hair cut and coloured in cheltenham recently and was hard pushed to find anywhere that would do it for under £100 and most women here seem to have their hair done atleast once a month! Mental! I do feel like a bit of a hobo sometimes but i'd rather feel like a hobo than waste £100 on a hair cut!
  8. yep we helped a guy with a very long boat (not sure how long but must have been getting on for 70ft) he warned us before we turned the paddles just to open the one oposite his boat first then the other. The water still went into the front of his boat a bit.
  9. I wanted to get out of renting after 10 years of it and wanted to move to the country. This was pretty much my only option. I'd never slept on a boat before we collected my new home now although its been tough in places I don't think i'd go back to land any time soon.
  10. if your into that kind of thing...
  11. Mine only cost about £6 but they seem better than those reviews. I've used friends GHD's and they are very good. Are you googling the right GHD's Carl?
  12. With those reviews! Bet they wouldn't even do my fringe! lol I only really straighten my hair about three times a year but its nice to have the option.

  14. i've just done up from Gloucester, up the canal through worcester to Stratford and back down the Avon/Severn not sure what I can add that the others haven't though other than getting the number for Bob at Tewkesbury lock. That guy is a wealth of useful information. Oh and double check stoppages.

  16. I actually want to put a bath in when we re-do the bath room. I used to have a half size one when I lived in a static van and found it really useful when washing clothes, washing my hair and on one occation when I was ill being able to sit and wash as standing up for a shower was far to much effort. As for stuff. I'm still battling that one. I got rid of so much but the organisation on the boat is so rubbish that i've just bought stuff again when I couldn't find things and seem to be stuck in some kind of circle. Before next winter i'm putting some proper storage in. The lay out of our boat that was designed for holidays just does not work for live aboard but i don't think it would take to much to sort it out.
  17. What else was running at the time? Have you tried just plugging the hair straigtners in? I find when I use mine I have to turn everything else off.
  18. Hi, well where to start? What do you want to know? One thing that suprised me on the Avon was lack of moorings. They are pretty much just at the locks, Stratford, Tewksbury and some pubs. Saying that most of the locks are in the middle of no where so still nice places to stop.

The canal below Birmingham is pretty shallow. Also some of the pounds on the Tardebigge get pretty empty. What el...

  19. If your lucky enough to have never 'needed' to get somewhere then thats lucky for you. But when your Dad decideds that even though we can't go up the river to the dry dock you should go round the canal way... and then on the way back have to wait for tides on the Severn to get back for work sometimes you are in a hurry! I'd rather not be but sometimes thats life.

  23. I'm just disapointed this isn't a thread about material curtains. Sounds like your very at peace with what your doing. You can always do day trip boats etc if your really missing it. If your getting a camper aswell you can get and explore all the bits you can't get to by water. Good luch with it all.
  24. See last week we went up the Severn to Worcester then up towards brum and then round to Stratford then down the avon back home. So now we've got loads of wood and we haven't used the fire for a few days. Typical over winter we couldn't get out very far and had hardly any. So back on topic i'd add organisational skills to the list if no ones said it already.
