  1. Yes , the light goes out and rev counter starts to work
  2. How I understand is that alternator warning light is energised when ignition is in on position feeding it with the 12v req for light to be on, then when ignition key is in start position it excites the alternator into charging mode and turn light out. I'll look for a relay but I'm sure there isn't one on the starter battery alternator. I have two independent charging lights for starter and domestic systems.
  3. Both alternators are basic stand alone systems. There's no relays. One lower amperage for starter battery and a higher amperage for the domestic batteries. The domestic side is working perfectly so I'm sure there's no relays used between the starting and domestic charging systems . I'll get the alternator removed and checked and while it's removed it will give me better access to the distribution block wiring for the charging/starter motor .
  4. Cheers for the input peeps, the voltage checks on the alternator and the connections on the distribution block on side of engine was my next checks. It just seems strange that putting a higher current from jump starting seemed to start the alternator to charge.
  5. New isolator fitted. When ignition is turned on the charging light is on.when engine starts the charging light stays on
  6. I thought that as well so I had new multi plug fitted. I think I'll have to check wiring from battery to starter motor. There's a connecting block that's bolted to engine bearer that's a pig to get at that I haven't looked at yet
  7. No remote alternator controller used. Twin alternators only.
  8. Cheers for your thoughts guys. When I started engine before battery died I was revving the engine hard but alternator still didn't start charging. It wasn't until I had to jump start it that the alternator started to charge making me think that the alternator was not being 'excited' by the battery until I jumped it with fully charged one( making me think that battery did not have enough juice in it to excite alternator originally). That's correct The charge light stays on when revving engine, also rev counter does not work
  9. My engine battery alternator does not 'excite' and it doesn't charge. If I keep starting engine then turn off engine a few times the starter motor starts clicking and not turning the engine (battery dead). However if I then jump start the battery the engine will start and alternator will charge. Any ideas peeps
  10. There's No fittings/ bleed valve at top of rad only the feed in and out ( with valves ) at the bottom of rad
  11. There's nothing at the top of the rad, it's a completely sealed unit apart from the two valves at the bottom .
  12. I've a radiator that has a pin hole in it and I'm going to repair it, however there is no bleed valve at the top of the radiator and I was wondering how I would go about bleeding the system ( webasto Evo top ). Any ideas please.
  13. I only asked if webasto needs to run because the circulation pump is only on when webasto is running and I thought it might need to be on to fill/bleed the radiator.
  14. My bedroom radiator needs replacing due to a pin hole that leaks. When I fit new radiator do I need to start webasto up to fill/bleed the new radiator. Thanks in advance
  15. i see what you mean Loddon , the problem is i have never taken shoreline off .The boat only has a wifi reuter and battery charger connected and everything else is 12v. So no sudden spikes etc. I have had a new boat moored behind me sharing the same bollard .before they moored there there were no other boats in there place so im wondering if the extra load that they are drawing is causing it !!!!
  16. yes i find it strange as well Tony that my RCD didnt trip or my bollard RCD didnt , especially as they are rated a lot lower than main marina one . At least im giving the AC system on my boat a good check . I have found some dodgy earths so ill address these as a start . cheers
  17. Was told by an electrician that my boat is causing the whole marina to trip out !!!!! I've been on marina for 1 1/2 yes without a problem. Been on shoreline all this time and only have a WiFi router and victron smart charger running which have been on constantly for the whole period. I'm finding it strange!!!!
  18. Cheers Tracy, I'll fix it too bulkhead. It's already got a earth point there but it's been secured with a self tapping screw by the previous owner and it's loose !!! And I've been told that I have an earth leak on boat so I'm hoping making a decent connection will cure prob. cheers
  19. Can you earth shoreline/invertor 240v cables to hull. Or where is best.
  20. No voltage at all , then after engine running for a moment it came to life
  21. When I started my engine today one of the charge lights stayed on and the volt guage didn't register any voltage, also rev counter did not work. Then after a short moment with engine running the charge light went out, volt meter registered volts and rev counter started to work. Any thoughts.
  22. I wouldn't need shoreline 240v while out the marina as I will be cruising everyday so alternator would do the changing
  23. 45w 12v TV ,12v shoreline fridge 5hrs TV worst case scenario (winter). Full sun with no obstructions. Flat panels. I have a Victron blue smart charger that I have on while in marina but was just wondering if I actually need to have it on permanently due to having the solar set up at this time of yr ?
