Stoak is a good quiet mooring (past the bridges) with a rural feel and a farm track leading to the good village pub (or was when I was last there several years ago!).

Just had a couple filled with crab in cheese sauce. Feeling rather full ATM, but will probably go back later to use up the rest of the mix on the traditional lemon juice & sugar. Rather over the top, I know, but I like to mark these annual events. Rather like the first snowdrops - neither falls on the same date each year unlike birthdays, which are so predictable. (OK, I know pancake day is predictable, but I have to look it up each year.)

Moonraker previously in Slaithwaite (the name refers to the town's annual 'moonraking' festivities) and Oliver tugboat in Hebden Bridge. They moved a few years ago. I wish her luck with the higher footfall she enjoys in Lincoln, but where the boats are moored (last time I saw them) can be quite exciting when the river is in flood!

Sorry Laurie, I was testing (unsuccessfully) how to embed a video.
I was testing how to embed a video in my Dr K thread. I think I understand now, but Restless Nomad did it for me, for which thanks.

I do apologise for sending this off topic as soon as it was posted. Please would anyone with info on the iron hulled boat St. Kilda send it to Spicemouse.

not to mention tasty morals coming out in the washing up water.
Do fish have a moral sense?

I've been up to the top twice (once singlehanded) and met Cheshire Rose, that tireless advocate of this beautiful canal, on one occasion. The last time I got to the top I walked back to Thorpe Salvin to visit the Parish Oven, a terrific little pub, only to find that it had closed. Is there any word of its present situation?

Never mind about all that. Sad story. But David Schweizer has invented a very useful new word. HYPOCRACY This obviously means 'inadequate government with overtones of its homophone'. A perfect description of the present regime . Now move it to the politics section

Blimey! Stoke to Co. Fermanagh! I wonder if there are any other narrowboats there. Certainly makes a difference from Anywhere to London.

THE Canal and River Trust has been given the go-ahead to carry out work to several trees in a conservation area at the Farnhill embankment next to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
Some of the trees, which include oak, cherry and hawthorn, will be crown lifted and retained, while others will be cut down, and the area of the embankment returned to a grassed area.
The trust's senior ecologist says in his submission to the council that the long term aim is to create scattered and informal tree development at the site with grass between the tree, which will allow safe and easy access.
After viewing the plans, Craven District Council said it would not be putting a Tree Preservation Order on the trees and so the work could take place.

What does 'crown lifted' mean - cutting off the lower branches? Tree Monkey will know.

Well, the whale was built in 1996, and it was not then a recreational craft, so I doubt the RCD applied.
One of his previous boats, not the ones he crossed the pond in, but one built to supply his adventure centre at Ardentinny or somewhere similar sounding in Jocksville, was built for him by Sam Springer.

Ardintigh, actually. I have often looked across at his place on Loch Nevis when staying with Son No 1 in Knoydart. Loch Nevis, BTW, in what you may refer to as Jockspeak, means 'Loch of Heaven', so whales do go to heaven. http://www.outdoorcentrescotland.co.uk/

You've never done a lateral flow test?
I ought to have known that Athy was the only other person never to have had a Covid test.

On our first trip through Harecastle, younger son, then aged about 10 (ie about 35 years ago) absolutely refused to go through, so after making sure there was a clear track, we sent him by himself over the top. He arrived before us, having run the second half for fear of being stolen by the gypsies encamped on the top. He never refused a tunnel after that.
(sorry if this tale is ethnically unacceptable - I'm just reporting what he said. )

4 Hours ago (post number X) PaulJ clarified that his insurance covers any damage to the boat he is moving.
There appears to be nothing else to discuss.
Not until the OP comes back, anyway. I wonder what she decided?

Just come out of a 24 hour power cut due to the storm. There are tree branches all over the roads.

There was an almost identical thread a while back. Here is my contribution.

Makes no sense to me either.
Well it obviously made sense to the 13 people (so far) who gave it a greenie.
Edited to say that those 13 didn't include me, as I don't entirely agree with Arthur's definition. I as usual agree with his views, but 'woke' has become a perjorative term because of all the extremists jumping on its bandwagon.

Just had similar with Tesco for car insurance. I scrapped the car 2 weeks before renewal so had to cancel the auto renewal. The web form wouldn't work so had to phone to stop the auto and was told about the admin charge. Any refund would have been less than the £25 and after giving the operator my thoughts, he graciously advised me he would not be applying it.
I'm quite surprised that a call centre operator would have the authority to do that. On the occasions I've had a similar query/complaint, I've been passed (with considerable delay) to a Higher Authority.

I did say past the bridges! About half a mile past the Motorways by a farm track bridge which leads to the village. A surprisingly rural mooring where for some reason the Motorways are not intrusive, being muffled by trees, I think. I've moored there a few times.
