This appeared in my inbox:
We have been informed that a shopping trolley is in the navigation by Bridge 7, Bull at Mirfield, close to the towpath side.
Please slow down and approach the area with caution and be vigilant for its presence.
We are hoping that the shopping trolley will be moved shortly.

Integrel? Reminds me of the fencing and security firm I used to deal with - Sentinal. However if you read the piece you'll see that the spellchecker has taken exception to their spelling.

Fascinating second episode, letting me see Cambridge from a perspective mostly not available from that other traditional form of transport which I used when visiting the city with Cygnet - the hire bike. Although I did recognise one or two places, including Kings College Chapel, where I attended the almost requisite sung evensong. The highlight for me was the Scott Polar Research Institute. Amazingly, there were very few other boats moored in the city centre below Jesus Lock in full summer.

When a boy gathering snow to make a snowman, I was told to avoid the yellow bits. But of course you could say that sort of thing then.

I didn't realise how old this thread was until Lady Muck made an appearance!

Is the sequel available? I did that whole journey the year I bought Cygnet (2006) - Calcutt to Sowerby Bridge via Cambridge! But not past Jesus Lock, obviously.

Mine, in the back cabin, round, but quite close to, a Heron stove is just painted with Rustins matt black.

That would seem to be the worst possible colour to use round a stove. Heat will be absorbed into the surroundings, instead of being reflected back into the cabin. Cygnet had polished copper sheet behind the stove. Only when it got a little grubby did it feel hot.

As far as I can make out it will cost £4.95, I might be wrong.
A link to part 2 (if free) will be helpful
I don't think the next episode has been put out yet. There is a reference to the Queen's death in this one, so it must be fairly recent, although the intro trailers later episodes, featuring Shire Cruisers and the boatyard.

Although his unrelenting enthusiasm can be a bit wearing, I enjoyed the video and actually watched one of his others about a train trip in the US. I look forward to the sequels of the canal trip, especially as I spotted my (former) boat in the aerial shots of the intro!

Yes, now fixed. Many thanks.

All day I have been unable to view new content further back than 10AM today. Is this somehow related to the announcement about working on the search facility?
Edited to say that when I click 'Load more activity', it tells me 'There is no more activity to display'.

Why is it called Pavo? I only know that pavo is the Spanish for turkey, but it's also the scientific name for peafowl.

If we're talking about the usual type of anti-vandal locks, then a reversed 1/4 inch socket works fine. In fact it was my preferrred method (on a ratchet screwdriver) when negotiating most of the HNC locks.
-
The new Lock 3E on the Huddersfield Narrow, outside Kirklees College, has been built much wider than standard - certainly over 8ft. I've no idea why. I've tried to find a pic with a boat in it to get an idea, but can't yet.
Here we are. This is Cygnet below the lock. I think the lock is that wide - I don't remember any narrowing on going in. If so, then this 'narrow' lock is over 9ft wide.

The Fox & Goose is not too far away (but avoid the folkie night).

Maybe you could change your forum name to "Mac off Cygnet" ...
Unfortunately, to a lot of people this has the same meaning!

I met you once when you were at Selby river lock. I brought you something but I cannot remember what. Anyway it comes to us all at some point, I gave up boating a couple of years ago mainly because I moved away from the canals. Godd luck where ever your life takes you in the future.
Well I can remember, which is rather reassuring! You took me to get some gas. That was in 2019, my final big trip on the boat, to York, Ripon and the Pocklington.

I have sold Cygnet to someone I know will be able to give the boat far better attention than I now would be able to, and in fact has been looking after Cygnet for the past couple of years. I hope he gets as much pleasure as I did cruising for 15 years over almost all of the waterways. He intends to live on Cygnet, despite her small size.
So if you see Cygnet, you can now address the owner as James, not Mac!

6 mature experienced ex narrow boaters fancy hiring a decent sized 3 berth well equipped boat in France next year.
Anyone have a nice rental ?
We're all happy to be vetted , and obviously act as expected.
Are you hot racking then?

We were trying to remember the name of that place which we visited many years ago.
It's not really all that posh, but crammed with interesting things, including IIRC a Lord Lucan connection. And very friendly staff. I remember I went in my boating clothes expecting noses to be turned up, but no. I very rarely ate out when boating, but remember having quail's eggs just because I could!

In my view, the HNC is a great canal with superb scenery. It is a bit (but not ridiculously) more challenging than other canals, providing there are at least a crew of two. This is not so much as to share the conventional work, it is that you really need one person on the bank to let down some water when grounded in a pound - because, have no doubt, you will get grounded at some point. If there is no one suitable on the bank, you stand a good chance of being stranded.
I've done the HNC twelve times, mostly singlehanded. I've never been stranded in the middle of a pound. Grounded once or twice, yes, but able to get off. That has only happened to me on the Rochdale, which I personally found harder than the HNC. I've also met several other singlehanders on the HNC who didn't moan about it, because they knew it wasn't like other canals and just got on with it without feeling 'challenged'.

The actual wording is "content which makes commentary on religious matters is banned". Mentioning or explaining the content of a T.V. programme is helpful to other members and does not constitute "commenting".
But The Happy Nomad's comment is definitely commenting on religious matters. He and others have said similar things on these forums several times without repercussions. I'm not religious and have no objections to the comments, just saying.

I wonder if the Covid rules which said that the skipper and the CRT person had to be two metres apart going through the tunnel, will still be in place this year. This means that boats with a trad stern or limited space at the back have to be driven through by the CRT person and the skipper has to be below. I think most skippers would prefer any touching of the sides be done by themselves and not a CRT skipper who is not familiar with the boat.
Quite so. When self-drive was being trialled, Fred Carter steered Cygnet while I stood inside wincing at every crunch.

Welcome back, Martin! Looks like you didn't leave the cut and Mr Bunbury in 2018 after all. Hope you are still enjoying it. I think we met at St Ives on the Great Ouse a few years back. I can't add anything actually useful to this thread except that I've moored at Piccadilly Basin (twice) and Islington Marina without problems.

Don't publicise it! I've twice recently found dumped portable toilets at Forestry Commision sites. (And a whole caravan too, but it probably wasn't worth more than a portable toilet.)
